Planting vanilla: vanilla cultivation techniques, how to cultivate vanilla?
Organic cultivation of vanilla
The agricultural improvement farm in Kaohsiung District said that there is a vanilla fever in Taiwan, which can be fully applied to daily life from eating, drinking, playing and having fun. In order to tie in with the government's leisure agriculture policy and develop industries with rural characteristics, and in response to the impact after China's accession to the WTO, Kaohsiung Farm promotes the fun life and leisure industry with the theme of "vanilla", with a view to opening up a new way for farmers to engage in agriculture and invigorate the local economy, so as to promote the sustainable development of agriculture. The agricultural improvement field in Kaohsiung District pointed out that the organic cultivation of vanilla must first have good environmental conditions, select sandy loam rich in organic matter, good drainage and ventilation, and keep slightly alkaline (pH value is about 7.3). The acidic soil can be improved with lime.
Vanilla plants are native to cold and dry areas at high latitudes. Under the climatic conditions of Taiwan, the climate in autumn and winter is more favorable for them, and the quality of vanilla planted at this time is better. The suitable temperature for its growth is 15 ~ 25 ℃, and it is more suitable for the growth of vanilla in autumn, winter and spring (from October to May), and avoid high temperature and humidity. Although most herbs are positive plants, they should be shaded and pruned with 50% shade in order to prevent burns in summer. Planting vanilla bogey has too high water content, and the high border is beneficial to the development of roots; covering the border with rice straw, coconut fiber or non-woven cloth can prevent weeds and keep the soil moderately dry and wet, so as to facilitate plant development, and it is necessary to control moisture. Watering (irrigation) should wait until the soil is slightly dry before watering, so as to avoid excessive moisture so as not to suffocate the roots. Therefore, proper drying is conducive to the development of plants. Before planting, 2000 kg of mature compost was applied to the soil every 10 mu, and oil meal compost was applied every 1 ~ 2 months during the growth period, and proper amount of supplementary nutrition was given to help to develop well.
The agricultural improvement farm in Kaohsiung District said that vanilla itself has special odors and repellent characteristics, and there are not many kinds of diseases and insect pests, such as blight and powdery mildew, while insect pests include aphids, whitefly, thrips, powdery beetles, and so on. in addition to strengthening cultivation and management, we can choose suitable seasonal cultivation and cooperate with non-pesticide control of diseases and insect pests to produce safe products. When the branches and leaves are too luxuriant, the weak branches and leaves will be cut off to facilitate ventilation and sunshine, reduce the occurrence of diseases and insect pests, and promote the growth and flowering of new branches. In the early or middle and late stages of growth, the terminal buds and excess axillary buds should be removed to promote multi-branched sprouting to increase the harvest. In addition, timely extraction of branches, leaves or stamens is conducive to the growth of vanilla plants, and can be used for food or tea, drying, must be picked before blooming.
Vanilla plants have a wide range of applications, including cuisine, tea, aroma and medicine, which are of great economic value. Through vanilla plants, they can make people look more refreshing, improve interpersonal relationships, and promote physical and mental health. If we can combine the development of local organic crops, cooperate with the tourism and leisure industry, and strengthen marketing, it will show a good prospect.
