Eucornuaspis (= Lepidosaphes) machili (Masked), also known as orchid oyster shield scale, belongs to Homoptera, Coccoidea. Distributed in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Taiwan, Shanxi and other places. Nymphs and female adults endanger Jian Lan, Cymbidium and Cycas. Fixed on the front and back of the leaves to absorb juice, so that the leaves lose their luster, affecting the growth and ornamental value.

Morphological features:

Adults: the shell length of female adults is about 2.lmm, long plough-shaped, the posterior end is enlarged, yellowish brown, and the shell point protrudes dark brown; male adults have long 1.5~1.6mm, fusiform, adenoma in the ventral side of the middle chest, 6 in the ventral side of the posterior chest, 4 in each ventral segment, and 3 pairs of buttocks.

Eggs: oval, yellowish.

Nymph: oval, yellowish brown when newly hatched.

Occurrence pattern:

The orchid oyster scale produces 2-3 generations a year, overwinters as fertilized female adults, lays eggs in the shell in the middle and late May of the following spring, and lays 20 eggs per female scale. The slow crawling of newly hatched nymphs is mostly on both sides of the main vein, and a few are fixed on the leaf margin. And secrete wax to form a shell gradually.

Prevention and control methods:

1. A small amount of shell in the leaves can be brushed off with a brush or soft brush, and the old leaves with more shell insects should be cut off and burned.

2. 50% fenitrothion 1000 solution was sprayed during the nymph incubation period. Combined with disease prevention, fenitrothion can be mixed with carbendazim.
