Give up millions of annual salary to grow organic kiwifruit Wang Xiaotie's five-year achievement
"this is an assignment that I finished in five years. I asked the teachers of my alma mater to rate it." On January 21, alumnus Wang Xiaotie presented a box of organic kiwifruit with both hands to Xu Yangfu, deputy secretary of the school's party committee. Behind them, 5000 boxes of the same kiwi were filled with seven trucks, and one box for each of them was soon distributed to the working staff of the school for free.
Wang Xiaotie is a graduate of the College of Agriculture of our university in 1994. He has worked in the seed Management Station of Shaanxi Agricultural Department and Qinfeng Agricultural Company. Since 2002, he has been involved in organic agriculture and served as the general manager of agriculture in many large enterprises in Beijing. In 2012, he left Beijing to Yangling to establish Shaanxi Baiheng Organic Orchard Co., Ltd., and transferred more than 500 mu of land in Shangwan Village and Maoling Village of Wuquan Town to explore the production of organic kiwifruit.
Baiheng kiwifruit orchard is different: cypress trees planted around the orchard are isolated from the surrounding farmland; 4 to 5 tons of sheep dung from the Inner Mongolia prairie are applied per mu of the orchard, while natural grasses are grown in the orchard, and artificially planted rape and vetch are used as green manure; microorganisms and natural extracts are used to prevent diseases and insect pests; strict thinning of flowers and fruits promotes the growth of a single fruit, leaving no more than 5 single fruits on a branch and 40 fruits on a tree.
China's national standard of "organic products" stipulates that organic products refer to products for human consumption and animal consumption, and chemical synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, growth regulators and genetic engineering organisms and their products are not allowed in the production process. Baiheng Orchard implements more stringent organic standards. In October 2016, it became the first orchard in China to be certified by China's GB/T19630, EU EOS, NOP of the United States and JAS of Japan. In October 2017, Baiheng kiwifruit trademark was awarded as "excellent Brand of Shaanxi kiwifruit".
Wang Xiaotie said that starting a business in Yangling is a process from theory to practice, and the process of innovative learning in "Field University" is "to grow the best kiwifruit." An oath, five years of hardship. "now it can be said that I have planted the organic fruit I want, and the production mode of Baiheng organic kiwifruit orchard can be replicated and popularized." Wang Xiaotie said that during this period, from land transfer to garden construction to production management and dealing with many difficulties, many teachers at his alma mater gave him great help and encouragement. He said that this time, Xu Xiang kiwifruit, which has just entered the peak fruit period in its fifth year of growth, was sent to express his gratitude and sincerely let the teachers at his alma mater taste the organic fruit and put forward opinions and suggestions.
Our school of horticulture expert, kiwifruit test and demonstration station expert researcher Yu Junyi participated in and guided the construction of Baiheng orchard. He said that the kiwifruit here has a safe production process and good quality, and is a really reassuring good fruit. Wang Min, a professor in the Department of Food Safety and Nutrition at the School of Food, commented that Baiheng organic kiwifruit tastes sour and sweet and has a long aftertaste. "Organic and original ecological agriculture are part of the country's great health strategy, and Wang Xiaotie's entrepreneurial spirit is commendable."
"eat in the mouth, sweet in the heart." Many faculty members praised it after tasting it. Xu Yangfu held Wang Xiaotie's hand and said that the school is proud of students like you who are unswervingly pursuing their dreams, and wishes that the "organic" cause of Baiheng Orchard will become better and better, and make greater contributions to the sustainable development of kiwifruit industry and the improvement of the quality and safety of agricultural products in our country.
