Effect of humidity in Orchid shed on Orchid

When growing orchids, pay attention not only to sunlight, plant materials and fertilizers, but also to humidity. Some orchid farmers only pay attention to the humidity of orchid pot plants, while ignoring the relative humidity of the air in the orchid shed.

In fact, the humidity in the shed is an important part of orchid conservation. Through my exploration and practice in recent years, it has a great impact on the growth and reproduction of orchids.

First, the orchid originally grows in the mountain forest, the surrounding environment humidity is relatively high, generally between 75% and 90%. After the orchid goes down the mountain, especially on the balcony or roof, if no humidification measures are taken, the humidity in the shed will be less than 40%. If the weather is fine in summer, the temperature is above 35 ℃, or when the weather is dry in winter, the humidity is less than 50%. Therefore, in addition to the humidity of the orchid basin plant should be kept at 70% of the maximum water holding capacity of the plant, not less than 50%, but also in accordance with local conditions, effective measures should be taken to increase the humidity in the shed to meet the appropriate requirements. The so-called "suitable" is to be close to the environmental humidity of the original growing place of the orchid, that is, about 75%.

Second, in recent years, I have adopted a semi-closed automatic humidifying blue shed, the roof is opened with tin, the middle is insulated by foam, glass windows are used around the doors, electric fans are installed in summer, automatic spray humidifiers, thermometers, hygrometers and automatic control systems are installed. Using this method can save manpower, can always keep the humidity in the shed to meet the appropriate requirements, and can play a certain cooling role, but the cost is more, but the effect is very good.

Third, blue shed humidification: it can also be covered by the roof and the surrounding transparent plastic sheet (film), but there are ventilation windows in the appropriate position. Supply fans, exhaust fans, water sprinklers, thermometers and hygrometers are also installed in the shed. In the humidification method, instead of using an automatic sprayer, a pool or basin is arranged on the floor of the shed or a water absorption sponge is placed on the ground to wet the ground with water; or a water sprinkler is installed near the air inlet and blows against the wind with a fan to blow up the water vapor to achieve the purpose of humidification. If the atmospheric humidity meets the appropriate requirements, you can open the ventilation window to allow natural ventilation in the shed, do not turn on the fan, if the atmospheric humidity does not meet the appropriate requirements, close the wind window, turn on the fan, and spray a large amount of water to the orchid plant, the floor in the shed and around. About a few minutes later, the temperature in the shed decreased and the humidity increased. At this time, the sprinkler is about to turn off, let the fan continue to blow, so that moisture circulation in the shed, maintain humidity in the shed, this effect is also very ideal. I measured it in my own blue shed, and the results showed that when the temperature was 30 ℃ and the humidity was 50%, after a lot of spraying, the temperature in the shed immediately dropped to 26 ℃, and the humidity increased to 75%. Some orchid friends are afraid that watering the orchid plant under the scorching sun will lead to orchid disease, but it is not. As long as it is ventilated, watering orchids at high temperatures is like washing leaves for orchids, which is just right for orchids.

Fourth, the effect of humidity on the growth of orchids. Some orchids say that where the temperature in the orchid shed reaches about 75%, the orchids grow better. I feel the same way after practice. However, the orchid shed is located on the sixth floor platform, and before humidification measures are taken, due to the dry atmosphere in winter and high temperature in summer, the humidity in the shed is often between 40% and 50%, which fails to meet the humidity requirements of orchids, so the orchids grow poorly; the germination rate is low, and the leaves have black spots and leaf tails are scorched. Since the orchid shed was changed into a semi-enclosed humidified orchid shed, the growth of orchids has changed greatly:

1. High germination rate. Nowadays, most of the orchids sprouted two buds, and the separation of the father and the head also sprouted.

2. There are few black spots on the leaf surface and less focal tip at the end of the leaf. The flowers are many, the leaves are green and lively.

The above views may not be correct. I would like to discuss them with you. If there are any irregularities, please criticize and correct them. I would appreciate it. (Zheng Pufa)
