Parlatorla proteus (Curtis), a major pest of orchids, belongs to Homoptera. It is distributed all over the country. Bitter insects and female adults endanger orchids, jasmine, camellia, cycads, evergreen, tiger skin orchid, citrus, orange, tequila and so on.

Morphological features: the female adult shell is long oval, brown-yellow, the edge is white or gray-white, the shell is thin and translucent, the second shell point is oval, protruding head end, dark color, female shell length 1.5mm, wide 5mm. Male mesocarp light brown, shell point black, long 0.8mm, wide 0.25mm. The female adult is wide oval, the middle chest and posterior chest are broad, the antennae have a long thorn, the anterior valve gland has 2-3, the edge of the insect body has conical gland thorns on and in front of the anterior valve gland, 4 groups of peri-pudendal glands, each group contains 4-11 glands, 3 pairs of gluteal lobe, developed, and the fourth segment is like arm spine.

Occurrence regularity: 2-3 generations a year, overwintering with adults and eggs, uneven generations, long spawning period, short egg period, and overlap of winter insects. It can be seen in Guangzhou almost all the year round, especially in the muggy, windy and humid environment in early summer and autumn.

Prevention and control methods:

1. When a small amount of orchids are killed, they can be scraped with a knife or wiped with cloth dipped in kerosene.

2. It can be sprayed with 1000 times of 80% dichlorvos emulsion or 40% omethoate emulsion for control.
