The substrate is the key to cultivate the lower mountain orchid. Generally, the soil of origin can be used for preparation. Because the matrix of the origin of Xiashan orchid is mostly rotten soil, strong water retention and high viscosity, the coarse river sand should be infiltrated into the mixture in order to be breathable and beneficial to root recovery. In addition, peat soil can also replace in-situ soil, which also needs to infiltrate into coarse river sand, such as brick grain, ceramsite, fern root, coconut shell bran, sawdust and so on. In a word, the lower mountain orchid matrix should be made of loose, breathable and water-retaining materials. (Chen Hanli)
