The clivia at home has been kept for more than 10 years without flowering. Where is the problem?
Every time it is said that a gentleman orchid grows more than 12 leaves and can blossom after three or four years, a flower friend comes to me and asks me: editor, look at this gentleman orchid. How come I haven't blossomed after 10 years? why haven't I used all the rice water and tea residue?
First, whether you can raise flowers or not is that you don't know enough about them. Let's take a look at them.
Wild magnolia
The native land of Magnolia is moist and warm woodland, which usually grows under evergreen forests that scatter light, and grows on well-drained, humus-rich hillsides, with habitats ranging from subtropical coastal forests to plateau forests in canyons.
Orchids planted on the ground can grow into a very spectacular expanse. They are very cool in winter and warm in summer. If you add rich and loose humus, their fleshy roots can grow to 80 cm deep.
Whether they are regular fan-shaped leaves or scattered leek-shaped leaves, they are very likeable. Each stem can produce 15-20 trumpet-shaped flowers, each 5-8 cm (big flower gentleman orchid is this big).
Cymbidium grows slowly and generally takes 3-5 years to fully mature. Each branch can produce an inflorescence, and the inflorescence is covered with florets.
Its fruit can be picked from green to orange and sown on the outer skin. Its seeds have the luster of pearls and can be sown when they are fresh.
Tips for indoor maintenance of magnolia
Magnolia grandiflora is a familiar indoor plant for flower friends. It can grow for many years. It is easy to grow and easy to maintain, but it requires a lot of patience.
In the normal maintenance process, to avoid frequent movement of animals and plants, as long as the basin is changed once a week. Gently wipe the leaves with a moist soft cloth every week to make the leaves brighter.
If your gentleman orchid blossoms and doesn't want to leave fruit, you can cut off the flower stem with a knife when it is about to fail. Otherwise, it will affect the flowering of the following year.
1. Location selection
The best place to maintain the orchid is to get 3 hours of light in the morning, and then 3 hours of light before evening, which is perfect.
The noon sun is too strong, it will scorch the leaves of the magnolia, remember not to be exposed to the sun. If it is too dark, it will not blossom and the plant will not be strong.
In summer, you can put the magnolia in a shady and ventilated environment, but don't get caught in too much rain and remember not to accumulate water.
2. Suitable temperature
In a warm environment, Magnolia grows very fast, and requires a short dormancy (6-8 weeks) in winter, that is, if the temperature is kept at about 10 degrees for 6 weeks, they can blossom better in the coming year.
If you blow too much heat in winter, you can blossom in the coming year, but if the winter is too warm, it will affect the flowering time and shorten the life span of the flowers.
3. Watering and fertilizing
Avoid too much spray on the orchid, especially do not leave excess water on the leaves.
You can give more water in spring and summer, let the basin soil dry and thoroughly every time as much as possible, and gradually reduce the frequency and amount of watering after getting cooler in autumn.
But wait until the end of winter, after the orchid blossoms and stems, we should begin to increase the frequency of watering, pay attention to not excessive, frequent excessive watering will cause root rot.
4. Potted soil and fertilizer
In spring and summer, liquid fertilizer can be given once every two weeks, it is best to use special fertilizer for gentleman orchid, and appropriate topdressing is needed in late winter.
Potted soil had better be loose humus soil, drainage is good, rotten leaf soil and sawdust match is good, fertile humus soil is the best.
5. Introduction to basin change and basin operation
Potted orchids usually have to change pots every 2-3 years, depending on the size of your flowerpot. When changing the basin, it is necessary to clean up the diseased root, the weak root and the old root. For the gentleman orchid who has flowered for more than 3 years, the root system only needs to leave a little more than 3.
When putting on the basin, you can break tiles on the basin floor pad, and add base fertilizer to the soil, preferably mature organic fertilizer, and bone powder can be added appropriately.
6. How to raise Magnolia outdoors
If you are raised outdoors, Cymbidium needs a mild and frost-free environment. Cymbidium is very sensitive to frost and is especially easy to freeze in the cold wind.
Many people who raise orchids on a large scale will plant orchids in the shade of trees, where the crown can protect them from frostbite or sunburn in dry and shady places with scattered light.
7. Sowing and ramet
The most suitable temperature for orchid sowing is about 21 degrees, and it is best to maintain it with a seedling pot. It will take at least 3 years for the orchid to mature and bloom.
If you see the lateral buds growing from the magnolia when changing the basin, you can separate it and re-cultivate the new plant.
Third, the common problems of flower friends raising magnolia:
1. There are bugs
If the orchid is harmed by pink scale, scale insects or leaf mites, appropriate insecticides should be used in time, which can be wiped with cotton swabs with alcohol or sprayed with soapy water.
2. Have not blossomed for many years?
If your orchid has not blossomed after 10 years, ask yourself if it has not been fertilized, overwatered and so on. (it belongs to some male and female.)
3. Rotten root
If your magnolia shows symptoms of rotting roots, be sure to remove the rotting roots in time, dry the wound, soak in carbendazim, and then change the basin.
4. The leaves are spotted
There are spots on the leaves, which are likely to be caused by sunburn, or by water droplets refracted by light on the leaves, and the rest is leaf spot disease. Remove the diseased leaves in time and spray methyl topiramate. Pot soil is too wet or random fertilization will also be the same, try to avoid.
5. Flowers with arrows
Gentleman orchid clip arrows, that is, flowers hidden in the branches and leaves, generally the winter environment temperature is not suitable, generally too warm, keep at about 10 degrees is the most appropriate.
If the arrow has been caught, then it is necessary to block the light, properly add a little fertilizer and water, avoid nutrient deficiency, appropriately increase the temperature difference, and improve the maintenance environment.
