The growth cycle of gentleman orchids is long, which usually takes four or five years to grow to 20 to 25 leaves before they can blossom. Those who are well cultivated can shoot arrows and blossom in two or three years, and some even shoot arrows and blossom in less than two years. In general, most gentleman orchids can only shoot one arrow a year and blossom once a year, and some can shoot two or three arrows in a year when they are cultivated. However, some gentleman orchids do not shoot arrows and blossom for six or seven years, while others do not blossom once. The flowering period of Cymbidium is from February to April. After flowering, the flowering period can be prolonged by proper cooling, ventilation and reducing light. The length of the flowering period of Cymbidium can be controlled by people's cultivation techniques.

1. Orchid should be added before flowering, bone meal, or fermented fish water, bean cake water, calcium superphosphate. This can make the flowers bright, increase the flowers, and thicken the leaves, otherwise, it will easily lead to the situation of small flowers, small number and light colors. In addition, attention should be paid to avoid excessive use of nitrogen fertilizer and insufficient phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, resulting in weak growth and excessive growth of leaves, affecting budding and flowering.

two。 Lighting: certain light conditions should be given to meet the light requirements of photosynthesis and flowering. Under strong light, the florescence is short and the flower color is bright; in low light, the flowering period is long, but the flower color is light; too long, too strong or long-term shade all affect the production and accumulation of nutrients, resulting in inability to bud and blossom.

3. Temperature has an obvious effect on the effect of flowering. When the temperature was too high, the root hair existed for a very short time, and the function of absorbing water and fertilizer was greatly decreased, which made the orchid semi-dormant; the growth was also inhibited when the temperature was lower than 10 ℃; the growth period should be controlled at 15 ℃-25 ℃ and the flowering period should be 15 ℃-20 ℃. In this way, the root hair exists longer, the absorption function of water and fertilizer is better, the leaves grow short and wide, and the flowers are luxuriant. It should also be noted that Cymbidium should maintain a temperature difference of about 8 ℃ between day and night, because its production of organic matter at higher temperatures during the day requires storage and digestion at lower temperatures at night.

4. Moisture: Cymbidium can not be short of water during the whole plant growth period, otherwise it will affect the growth. The amount of water needed to enter the flowering period is greater, and the growth humidity is not less than 60%, or no more than 80% at most.

5. Prevention of entrapment of arrows: Cymbidium often produces the phenomenon of entrapment of arrows that cannot be pulled out of the scape, which should be paid attention to as follows:

(1) when changing the soil, the soil at the root should be pressed gently, otherwise, because there are too many gaps in the basin soil, it will often make it difficult for water and nutrients to reach the root, so that the root is often too dry, resulting in arrow entrapment.

(2) the temperature should not be lower than 20 ℃, or higher than 25 ℃, or there should be a temperature difference when there is no temperature difference between day and night.

(3) the entrapment of arrows caused by hypoxia and malnutrition caused by basin soil consolidation should be prevented.

(4) the indoor sunlight should be as abundant as possible in winter.

(5) before flowering, the famous variety of Magnolia should be selected as the male parent for artificial pollination for 3 times, so as to avoid self-pollination as far as possible, otherwise not only the seed setting rate is not high, but also the descendant varieties will degenerate.

(6) after the flowers have withered, it is necessary to change the pots and soil, remove the rotten leaves and soil during operation, be careful not to break the fleshy roots, and add hooves as base fertilizer. At ordinary times, we should also pay attention to the prevention of diseases and insect pests to ensure the normal growth of plants.
