There are generally four ways to buy orchids: ① orchid exhibition; ② directly to the orchid garden specializing in orchid production; ③ to the orchid store; and ④ to the reputable producers through the mail order catalogue.

At present, the most popular cultivated orchids are Phalaenopsis, Cymbidium, Oncidium, Cartland and Dilan. Cartland is luxurious and gorgeous, such as a lady; Phalaenopsis is as gorgeous as a tropical butterfly; Papaenopsis is strange and elegant and has esoteric taste. When facing a pot of beautiful orchids, you may be fascinated and at a loss as to what to do. You may feel that the pots are all good and the plants are beautiful. How should you choose and buy orchids?

According to the location or place of decoration, such as as festive, New year, festival furnishings, should be considered according to the characteristics of the bedroom, the preferences of the host and so on. Room decoration has a strong sense of modern, luxurious style, you should buy colorful Cymbidium, Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium; if the room is antique, you should buy elegant and fragrant national orchids; if placed on the dining table or desk, you should choose and buy small plants of Magnolia, Cartland, Balasolan or individual Phalaenopsis, Oncidium, Milton Orchid, etc. If the interesting cultivation and cultivation places are small, but the diversified varieties are collected, mini orchids with a plant height of less than 20 cm should be selected; Cymbidium, giant orchid, Wandai orchid or combination of potted orchids should be placed at the door of the living room. At the same time, it should be noted that after flowering, orchids placed indoors should be moved to places where they can grow normally, because orchids are not a disposable plant, as long as they are properly nursed, they can have a long life.

According to the cultivation conditions, the overwintering temperature of many orchids needs to be more than 10 ℃, so warm facilities must be installed when these orchids are cultivated in cold areas in winter. Therefore, the selection and purchase of orchids should first consider whether their own cultivation environment can meet the needs of orchids. It is best to consult experts before buying orchids to choose orchids suitable for their existing cultivation conditions.

Look at the flower selection and purchase according to the flowers, especially the national orchid varieties should be selected as far as possible in the flowering period, so that they can choose the species, flower shape and flower posture according to their own preferences. The standard of good flower is round flower shape, bright color, fine petal texture, beautiful inflorescence, long florescence, strong environmental adaptability, good flowering, easy flowering, and strong resistance to diseases and insect pests. The more orchids that meet the above conditions, the more they can be called "good flowers". The scoring standard for Cymbidium is flower type (30 points) + flower color (30 points) + other characteristics (40 points) = total score (100 points).

When you look at the leaves and orchids, you should not only pay attention to the flowers, but also whether the leaves are bright green or not. But it should be noted that too bright flowers and leaves are often sprayed with leaf brightener.

An important sign of choosing a healthy orchid plant is to look at the roots. The roots of epiphytic orchids are fresh emerald green when they are in full bloom, and the leaves of epiphytic orchids show burning tips when their roots rot. In addition, orchid plants that are pest-free and grow well should be selected.

It is best to choose improved varieties and hybrids with clear sources, and must have a label indicating the name of the variety.

Finally, if you can consult experienced orchid friends and orchid experts before buying orchids, and elaborate on your favorite, cultivation conditions and purpose of buying orchids, you will often get very good results.

When selecting orchids, the flower price should be treated correctly, and the flower price should not be regarded as the main standard for selection and purchase. Because the price is determined according to the market, the price of the new flowers will be on the high side because of the scarcity of the market, and the market price will naturally decrease after mass production. Therefore, when choosing and buying, it mainly depends on whether it is in line with your own preference, purpose, and so on.
