China will further strengthen the protection of foreign-related geographical indication products

On July 30, the reporter learned from the General Administration of quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (hereinafter referred to as AQSIQ) that the AQSIQ recently issued a notice that it will further strengthen the protection of geographical indication products of foreign origin.

According to reports, the AQSIQ will strengthen its leadership over the protection of foreign-related geographical indication products, organize research on the World Trade Organization (WTO)-related Agreement on Trade-related aspects of intellectual property Rights (TRIPs Agreement), the laws and regulations on the protection of geographical indications of relevant countries or regions, and the relevant requirements of foreign-related protection products, and further build a solid business foundation for the protection and supervision of foreign-related geographical indication products. At the same time, it is necessary to actively coordinate governments at all levels in relevant areas and strengthen business consultation and guidance to enterprises and producers of other geographical indication products of origin; it is also necessary to organize and study inspection and quarantine compliance inspection and facilitation measures applicable to foreign-related protection products, strengthen import and export statistics of foreign-related protection products, and promote foreign trade of foreign-related protection products. With regard to the export of foreign-related protection products, we should, in combination with relevant measures, strengthen convergence with the current inspection and quarantine supervision regulations, strictly supervise and urge enterprises to carry out production and management in accordance with the relevant requirements approved for protection, and strictly prevent fake and shoddy products from leaving the country. It will further organize the screening of geographical indication products under its jurisdiction, and study and recommend a list of foreign-related protection products with export potential in line with the international consumer market, export stability or no safety and quality problems.
