The traditional petal shape of Lihe is established on the basis of long-term observation of the flower shape of Chunlan. The flower shapes of other national orchid species are not much different from their sepals, petals and tongue petals except for some differences in flower diameter between Chunlan and Chunlan. Therefore, it can be appreciated by the petal shape standard of Chunlan plum, lotus and fairy. However, when we watch the cold orchid, we will find that the proportion between the sepals, petals and tongue petals of the cold orchid is quite different from that of Chunlan and other kinds of national orchids. The sepals of the cold orchid are much longer than the petals, generally 2 to 3 times the size of the petals; moreover, the proportion of the length and width of the sepals is more different from that of Chunlan and other orchids, and its length is more than 10 times the width. For example, if the width of the sepals is 0.4~0.8cm, but its length is more than 4~9cm, so the sepals commonly known as Hanlan are "chicken claw type" petals. meanwhile. Compared with the petals, most of the tongue petals of Hanlan are longer, wider and larger. Unlike other national orchid varieties, the tongue petals and petals are basically the same size, or even slightly smaller. In view of the characteristics of Han orchid in flower shape, it will be far-fetched if we use the traditional petal shape standard to measure Chunlan plum, lotus and immortal. Therefore, I think it is necessary to establish Hanlan's own petal view when appreciating cold orchid petal type, on the basis of the theory of spring orchid petal type and according to the unique characteristics of cold orchid shape. In order to be more in line with the reality of the flower shape of cold orchid in the process of aesthetic appreciation.

How to establish Han Lan's petal view? The establishment of any theory comes from practical experience, and the establishment of cold orchid petal theory is no exception.

First of all, let's take a look at the various names made by people in the process of watching the shape of cold orchids combined with various flower shapes of cold orchids.

Such as: don't startle magpie, magic bird, color training dance, white spider, Cuiyan, swan, brocade bird, yellow bird, bluebird, white bird, green parrot, yellow crane, return wild goose, purple swallow, dance fairy, crane dance and so on. It is not difficult to see that most of the above names are related to the posture of flying birds, which is obviously due to the fact that most of the cold orchid sepals are very narrow and long, and show a variety of torsional shapes, and the tongue petals are particularly long, wide and large.

Secondly, let's take a look at many cold orchid flowers because of the embarrassment of naming them according to the petal shape standards of Chunlan plum, lotus and immortal. Such as "Green Narcissus" (see Xu Dongsheng "Chinese Orchid cultivation and appreciation" picture 214), its petal shape slightly pocket, but the three sepal is completely three bamboo leaves. Another example is "Han Lan Mei" and "Han Lan Blue and White Plum" (see Liu Qingyong's "Chinese Orchid Treasure appreciation Picture Book" p190, p200). The reason for its naming is nothing more than the fact that the hard pocket and the petal pocket are thickened and fleshy, so it looks quite awkward. For example, the "small color lotus" in Peng Changrong's "New Orchid rare products" p151 and the "cold orchid lotus shape" in p152 are also slightly "lotus", but if measured by the standard of the lotus petal of Chunlan, it looks very far-fetched, because its sepals have a width-to-length ratio of more than 13.5 and have no shape at all. As can be seen from the above examples, according to the flower shape observed at present, it is not advisable to use the petal shape of Chunlan to define the petal shape of Hanlan.

Third, let's take a look at a special example. Peng Changrong's "Orchid New rare products" published in p152 "Cold Orchid New products", its introduction text says that this flower "seals hold the edge of the pocket, crystal cover wheel, the front of the main lobe folds like a crane (head), the crystal edge is particularly obvious, and the tongue is also pocketed." The third issue of Chinese Orchid in 2004, Li Kaineng proposed that this kind of flower be designated as "crane petal" flower. After looking closely at the picture, I found that the shape of the recommended flower is indeed very similar to that of the crane head, especially from the front, so I fully agree with the definition of this kind of flower as a "crane petal" flower.

To sum up, I think that according to the characteristics of the cold orchid shape, the petal shape of the cold orchid seems to be named according to the shape of birds and insects, rather than the petal shape of plum, lotus and immortal of Chunlan, so as to establish its own petal theory. In addition to the "crane-shaped valve" mentioned above, we can also cite some examples to support it. For example, the "strange flowers with forked petals" in the p150 of Peng Changrong's "New Orchid rare products", the flowers are like a gliding swallow, can this kind of flower be named "swallow petal"? On the other hand, the "ou Han Rong Butterfly" in p144 of this book is completely a flower spider with open teeth and claws. On the other hand, Liu Qingyong's "Yellow Flower Cold Orchid" and "White Flower Cold Orchid" contained in Liu Qingyong's "Chinese Orchid famous products appreciation Picture Book" can be named "shrimp-shaped petal" or "crab-shaped petal" because the calyx petals on both sides of the two flowers are surrounded by internal hooks, with shrimp and crab dancing forceps.
