There are indeed some small differences among the varieties of Chunlan. Jiangsu and Zhejiang Chunlan generally have tender petals and more bracts with purple tendons; Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi and Anhui Chunlan are the same, mainly with darker petals and more white ones; there are two kinds of Chunlan in Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan. one kind of petal is thinner, the bract coat is thinner, and the other kind of petal thickness is called Douban. Among these four types of spring orchids, the thin petal orchids of Yunguichuan are the most fragrant, mellow and without peculiar smell, followed by Jiangsu and Zhejiang spring orchids; Anhui spring orchids and southerly Hubei spring orchids are obvious in Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi and Anhui provinces, which are not different from Jiangsu and Zhejiang spring orchids, and some are very fragrant, but on the whole, the fragrance is a little lighter than Jiangsu and Zhejiang spring orchids. Fragrant orchids in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Hubei sometimes give off a slightly pungent aroma. Whether the orchid in Anhui and Hubei is fragrant or not is also related to the air temperature and the moisture in the flowering stage. The temperature in the flowering stage is lower, which is not conducive to the volatilization of the aroma oil, which is not entirely the problem of the orchid itself. Douban Cymbidium is generally not fragrant. Chunlan in the southwest of Hubei, that is, Enshi, is of the same strain as Yunguichuan, which is very mellow. This also reflects the complexity of Hubei's geography and the diversity of orchids, so we cannot simply say whether the spring orchids in Hubei are fragrant or not.
