National Climate Center: northern areas should pay attention to prevent continuous drought in autumn and winter
According to experts from the National Climate Center, due to the influence of El Nino, grain production is expected to be affected this autumn and winter and next summer, reminding the northern region to pay attention to preventing continuous droughts in autumn and winter and to prepare for drought in advance.
Experts suggest that the northern region should focus on preventing autumn drought and strengthening drought monitoring. Once the drought develops and spreads, it is necessary to concentrate on limited water sources to water and protect seedlings, cultivate soil by mid-tillage, increase humidity by chemical control, and reduce drought losses. Winter wheat areas should focus on preventing continuous drought in autumn and winter, scientifically determine varieties, improve sowing quality, strengthen fertilizer and water regulation, and take watering overwintering water as a key measure for drought resistance and freezing. The northeast region focuses on preventing early frost, scientific fertilizer and water management, and takes comprehensive measures to prevent early frost and improve yield and quality.
Meteorological experts said that the El Ni ñ o phenomenon often occurs in summer and autumn. Affected by it, the precipitation in China will be more in the south than in the north this autumn, and the autumn drought in the north has become a foregone conclusion.
According to the monitoring data of the China Meteorological Observatory, in July this year, the precipitation in northwest China, North China and Huang-Huai region was 30.7%, 30.9% and 21.2% less than that in the same period, respectively, and the precipitation in Henan Province was 66.2% less than that in the same period.
Experts from the National Meteorological Center said that the year of El Ni ñ o is not conducive to the production of middle and late rice in southern China and autumn grain production in the north. At present, drought and high temperature are very obvious in northern China. Too high temperature will hinder the growth and yield of crops and affect the harvest.
At present, the area of crops affected by drought has reached 64.26 million mu, of which the area of autumn crops affected by drought in Henan Province is 25.83 million mu. In addition, high temperatures and droughts also lead to the drying up of lakes, rivers, reservoirs and ponds, threatening people's production and life. So far, 1.96 million people and 2.57 million head of large livestock across the country have suffered from drinking water difficulties due to drought.
In addition, under the influence of El Nino, continuous drought in autumn and winter may occur in the northern winter wheat region, which will affect agricultural production in autumn and winter. The time of the first frost in Northeast China may be ahead of schedule, resulting in cold damage.
