The growth law of orchids
In order to raise orchids well, we must master the law of the growth and development of orchids, such as how to produce buds and leaves, when to blossom, when to dormancy and so on. As far as Jiangsu and Zhejiang are concerned, it goes something like this:
Cymbidium blossoms at the beginning of March when the temperature is about 13-17 ℃, the new buds begin to grow in late May (about 23 ℃), and the flower buds grow again after late August (32 ℃). The relative dormancy period of flower bud is from late November to February, which no longer grows until it blossoms in March. Summer orchid is a little later than Chunlan. It begins to grow flower buds in late March, blossoms in mid and late April, new buds and new leaves grow from early July to the end of September, flower buds differentiate in early March, unlike Chunlan in September-October, there is no relative dormancy period after flower buds are unearthed, new leaves grow in spring and summer, and there is no relative dormancy period after flower buds are unearthed. Epiphytic tiger-headed orchids bloom in winter and spring, and yellow cicadas bloom in autumn and winter, but their new leaves and buds grow from late spring to summer, and generally have a short dormant period after flowering. The season in Beijing is 1-2 weeks later than that in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, but if orchids are cultivated in greenhouse, the growing season in Beijing is even earlier than that in Jiangsu and Zhejiang because of the high temperature.
