China is a big country in agricultural production and consumption. With the improvement of residents' consumption capacity, there is a huge space for the development of cold chain. At present, vegetable production accounts for about 60 per cent of global production, fruit and meat production accounts for 30 per cent, and poultry eggs and aquatic products account for 40 per cent. With the increase of national income, the upgrading of consumption will stimulate the supply of fresh products. However, the total meat consumption in China is as high as 80 million tons, and the room for improvement of refrigerated and frozen products is very huge.

China supports the development of cold chain logistics very much in terms of policy. In June 2010, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the Development Plan of Agricultural products Cold chain Logistics. The plan proposes to promote the whole society to increase the cold storage capacity by 10 million tons by 2015 through transformation, expansion and new construction.
