Experience in Growing Cold Orchid
Cold Susu (Wen He) Qingtian in southern Zhejiang Province has beautiful mountains and rivers, and outstanding people. Oujiang towering mountains along the coast, mountain peaks, four distinct seasons, pleasant climate. Orchid resources are very rich, especially prolific cold orchid. Some people also call cold orchid "winter orchid","Ou orchid".
In Qingtian County northwest along the Oujiang tributary basin---Wanshan Township. On the steep slope of Jianfeng Mountain, about 400 - 600 meters above sea level, different varieties of cold orchid were found in the broad-leaved forest where streams flowed and fog was diffused. There are green stems blue and white, purple stems purple, summer cold orchid and so on.
I introduced in the original cold orchid, roughly done seasonal temperature, humidity measurement practice. In winter, there is snow on the mountain peaks, and the temperature in the broad-leaved forest is still 8 degrees Celsius; in summer, the temperature under the broad-leaved forest is still 28 degrees Celsius, and the breeze is blowing, and the air is fresh. Relative humidity is 75%, such a natural environment is indeed warm in the east and cool in summer, so it forms the growth characteristics of cold orchid avoid heat and fear cold. I introduced them in early October 2001 and cultivated them in two groups.
A group, cultivation of plant materials with small and medium-sized fairy soil, medium particles of fairy soil bottom, one-third of the small particles to cultivate up to about one centimeter above the pseudobulb. Pour planting water thoroughly. Keep in the open air without direct sunlight. After the winter solstice, the cold snap comes and the temperature drops to 5 degrees Celsius. Cold orchids will be frostbitten below 5 degrees Celsius and must be moved indoors for winter. At this point, depending on the pot soil dry and wet watering, noon should be sprayed on the foliage humidification. After the spring equinox of the following year, it will be placed in the open air for normal maintenance (more than 70% shade must be provided). Different seasons of cold orchid water requirements are not the same. 4--6 As long as there is no ponding in the basin soil in rainy season, it will not hurt the roots. Summer temperature is high, plant water evaporation is large, water is poured once a day in the morning (depending on the planting environment). Splash water on the ground around the flowerpot. One is to increase humidity but reduce temperature, the highest temperature should be controlled at about 30 degrees Celsius. Create artificial planting environment. The survival rate of Cymbidium campestris L. is 100%, and its growth is good. The roots are thicker, whiter, and more developed than when they are down the mountain, and they bloom every year.
The second group, under the same environment, with the same management method but with different plant materials (humus soil, mountain mud), got different results--the root system of the plant was not developed, the plant grew slowly, the new bud was not strong, and there was no flower. The reason is April-June rainy season, basin soil condensation, poor permeability.
Therefore, it is necessary to determine a variety of different nursing methods according to the site, environment, plant materials and other factors in order to make the cold orchid grow well. In fact, it is not difficult to raise a good cold orchid as long as you master the right method, you will raise it full of vitality, leaves and flowers.
