Vernalization, the common sense of plant encyclopedia knowledge; vernalization-(vernalization), the role of low temperature in inducing and promoting flower formation of overwintering plants. Winter herbs (such as winter wheat) generally germinate in autumn, spend the cold winter after a period of vegetative growth, and blossom and bear fruit at the beginning of the following summer. This is because winter plants need to go through a certain period of low temperature to form flower buds. The germinated seeds of winter crops can blossom and bear fruit normally during spring sowing after a certain period of low temperature treatment. The word vernalization comes from this. Vernalization occurs in winter cereal crops (such as winter wheat), biennial crops (such as sugar beet, radish, Chinese cabbage) and some perennial herbs (such as forages), which is the basic reason why they must wait until the following year to blossom. Then, from this understanding, only low temperature can promote flower bud formation and flower organ development, a process called vernalization. The process of low temperature stimulation and treatment that causes flowers to pass through vernalization is called vernalization.

Most orchid farmers should think that spring and cymbidium only go through vernalization. Orchid can open well, opening products in place, vernalization, is essential to Lan, Hui. Therefore, it is said that in the south, especially in Guangdong, Yunnan, Fujian and other places, the products of spring and cymbidium are not as good as those in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other northern regions. Even, spring and cymbidium can not blossom in the south. However, on the Internet, many orchid blossoms in the south are not necessarily worse than those in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other northern regions. So, in areas where there is no vernalization, why can orchids produce such good products? from this, I personally think that vernalization is a certain condition for orchids to promote flowers. It is not necessarily the only necessary condition for Lanhui to blossom.

From the native place of our orchids, spring and cymbidium were in a period of exuberant growth from July to August, that is, before the low temperature. at this time, the flower buds were slowly unearthed and grew slowly. In that case, can we say that spring and Cymbidium send out flower buds without low temperature vernalization? well, if we say that flower buds are produced after vernalization, is it a little different from our previous plant encyclopedia's understanding of vernalization? because spring and Cymbidium send out flower buds without vernalization during the low temperature period. If there is, it is only the stage of low temperature vernalization last year.

After Chun and Cymbidium with flower buds enter a period of low temperature, their growth slows down gradually because of the temperature. After entering what we call vernalization, because it does not grow, it actually enters a period of semi-dormancy. So the substances in its flower buds can accumulate (such as some essential nutrients for orchid flowering). It is also likely to involve the increase in the content of hormones such as gibberellin (it has also been proved that gibberellin can make spring and cymbidium bloom normally without low temperature induction), and finally make the flower bud have the material basis for scape flowering. When the temperature rises, the external temperature signal through the plant signal transmission system enables the plant to complete the last series of physiological and biochemical reactions before flowering. The flower bud finally completed the process of scape and flowering.

So, we used to talk about vernalization, that is, spring and cymbidium enter low temperature, which slows down the growth of orchids to enter a dormant state, and flower buds enter a period of nutrient accumulation, laying the foundation for flowering after the temperature rises. Then can we think like this: as long as we use a certain method to make spring and cymbidium give it a semi-dormant period before flowering, so that its growth can be limited to a certain extent, so that flower buds have a certain amount of time to accumulate nutrients needed for flowering, or to give spring and cymbidium some drugs can stop the growth of orchids and release the nutrients needed for flower buds to bloom. Then, without vernalization, orchid and Hui can blossom normally.

I remember that Mr. A Miao in Taiwan used the management skills of Chun and Cymbidium to control water and reduce relative humidity to force the growth of Cymbidium into a semi-dormant state, causing Chunlan to blossom in Taiwan where there is no low temperature. I have also heard that some orchids use gibberellin to make spring and cymbidium blossom normally without low temperature. therefore, only when we really understand the concept of spring and Huilan and promoting flowers at low temperature, it is possible to try some new management methods. to meet the needs of orchid blossoms in areas without low temperature, of course, we cannot just think that if there is no low temperature, we can certainly find and replace the method of promoting flowers at low temperature.

I personally think that, in fact, under the circumstances of different seedling conditions, whether after vernalization or without vernalization, the flowers of Spring and Cymbidium which have been treated or not have different opening conditions. Because the specific situation of each orchid farmer is different, in addition to finding the key to the vernalization of orchids, improving our breeding level, and further exploring and perfecting new management methods, only in this way can Chun and Cymbidium be able to produce the best products in different areas.
