The state launches a new round of project of returning farmland to forests.
The reporter learned from the Provincial Forestry Department on August 19th that a few days ago, with the approval of the State Council, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the State Forestry Administration, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Land and Resources jointly issued the "New Round of General Plan for returning cropland to Forest and grassland." it marks the official launch of a new round of national project of returning farmland to forest and grassland. Within 2014-2020, sloping farmland and seriously desertified farmland with conditions will be returned to forests and grasslands in a planned way.
The "plan" points out that the new round of returning farmland to forests and grasslands will be implemented in a "bottom-up, up-down" manner, that is, on the basis of farmers' voluntary declaration of the task of returning farmland to forests and grasslands, the central government will approve the total scale of each province and allocate subsidy funds to the provinces, and the provincial people's governments shall bear the overall responsibility for returning farmland to forests and grasslands, and independently determine the standard of subsidies to farmers.
In accordance with the requirements of the state, a new round of implementation plan for returning farmland to forest and grassland in Sichuan Province is being formulated and is expected to be introduced by the end of September.
