Fourteen demonstration areas have become "leaders" in the development of modern agriculture.
Beijing, August 21, Economic Daily Reporter Qiao Jinliang learned from the Ministry of Agriculture that the Office of the Leading Group for the Construction of Modern Agriculture Demonstration Areas of the Ministry of Agriculture recently released the "2013 National Modern Agriculture Demonstration Area Construction Level Monitoring and Evaluation Report". This is the first time that China has carried out a nationwide evaluation of agricultural modernization.
According to the report, in 2012, among the 153 national modern agriculture demonstration zones, Shunyi District of Beijing City, Pudong New District of Shanghai City, Taicang City, Kunshan City, Wuxi City, Dongtai City, Pei County, Tongshan District of Xuzhou City, Xiangcheng District of Suzhou City, Cixi City of Zhejiang Province, Hutubi County of Xinjiang, Heilongjiang Reclamation Area, Ningxia Reclamation Area and Wujiaqu Reclamation Area of Xinjiang Corps Agricultural Sixth Division ranked first in agricultural modernization construction level. According to the evaluation method for monitoring and evaluating the construction level of national modern agricultural demonstration areas (trial), it has taken the lead in basically realizing agricultural modernization and has become the "leader" of modern agricultural development in China.
The report believes that the National Modern Agriculture Demonstration Zone plays an outstanding role in China's agricultural modernization. In 2012, the total cultivated area of 153 demonstration areas was 246 million mu, the total grain output was 245 billion jin, and the added value of agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery was 774.8 billion yuan, accounting for 20.8% of the grain output of 13.1% of the country. The average grain yield per mu in the demonstration area is 468 kg, and the per capita net income of farmers is 11,000 yuan, which is 32.4% and 34.1% higher than the national average level respectively. It is in the forefront of the country in improving land yield, resource utilization rate and labor productivity.
The report shows that the transformation of traditional agriculture in the National Modern Agriculture Demonstration Zone has achieved remarkable results, modern agricultural production factors are accelerating their injection into the agricultural field, and important progress has been made in agricultural modernization. In 2012, 51.5 percent of the farmland in the demonstration area was protected from drought and flood, and the comprehensive mechanization level of crop cultivation and harvest reached 72.5 percent, 15.3 percentage points higher than the national average. Agricultural production methods have mainly relied on modern facilities and mechanical operations, and material and equipment conditions have been improved at an accelerated pace.
