Epiphyllum is a tropical cactus plant. It is famous for its mournful flowers blooming at night. Flower friends will ask: is it difficult to raise cactus flowers? How to make epiphyllum blossom more easily?

The following editor will teach you the most practical experience.

I. breeding and planting epiphyllum

1. Cutting leaves

If you find it troublesome, you can go directly to the florist to buy a small pot and slowly raise it. Of course, you can also go to the flower friend's house to cut some leaves and come back to breed. After the cutting is successful, the sense of achievement is very great.

Select cutting leaves must choose mature thick, about 10 cm cut, you can cut a few more segments, improve the chances of success.

2. Pre-cutting treatment.

The cut leaves are put in a cool and dry place, in principle of sunlight, it is best to put them in a shady, ventilated and dry room. Epiphyllum is also a fleshy plant, and the leaves can be removed from the pot soil for a month.

The leaves we cut will be left for a week, and their wounds will heal, preventing them from rotting when cutting.

3. The process of cutting

There must be many drainage holes in the basin used to cultivate epiphyllum to avoid the rot of leaves caused by stagnant water in the basin soil. The suggestion is to mix peat soil with perlite at 1:1 (the size of perlite should be less than 3 mm, you can only use perlite), so you don't have to worry about stagnant water, the flowerpot material can be pottery pot or plastic pot, once the peat takes root, then transplant it into the new medium and flowerpot. (keep it moist, not wet)

4. Pay attention to watering

Do not water too frequently, frequent watering is easy to rot, see a little dry before watering, if you find that section of the leaf to rot, should be cut off in time.

If the leaves of the cuttings are rotten, clear out the flowerpot and remove the soil next to it.

How to maintain epiphyllum

1. Position of placement

After the transplanting of the epiphyllum root of the cuttings, it should be placed in a place with scattered light and ventilation. In the early stage, it should be protected from rain, can be hung in the air, and can prevent slugs and snails.

The sun should not be too strong, or the leaves will burn. They can be placed on the east or north windowsill to maintain good ventilation and protect them from Rain Water and the storm.

2. Watering

If it is hot weather, should be watered every few days, so that the soil will not be completely dry, slightly dry will be watered.

Water should be fully watered until water flows out of the drainage hole at the bottom of the basin.

3. Fertilization of epiphyllum

If you want epiphyllum to blossom better, you need regular fertilization, which is thin fertilizer, not thick fertilizer. The time of fertilization is generally from May to late August, or a little phosphate fertilizer is added after flowering.

The frequency of fertilization, the interval between watering, that is, twice watering before applying fertilizer, the concentration of fertilizer is 1pm 3 of the instructions, remember not to be thick, it will not work if you have too much.

A little phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be given in winter, but not nitrogen fertilizer. The ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in 10-2-10 or 0-10-10 is suitable, and balance fertilizer can be applied after spring warmth.

4. Winter maintenance

During the period of cooling in autumn and cold in spring, the maintenance temperature of epiphyllum must be kept above 5 degrees, otherwise it will be frostbitten. If there is no heating, you can use cardboard boxes to protect and bag to prevent hail damage.

The best time to plant and reproduce epiphyllum is between April and September, and avoid direct sunlight in the early stage.

5. Maintenance after transplanting

The cuttings of epiphyllum survive and transplant after rooting, which are all skills. Transplanting for 1-2 years requires transplanting into a larger flowerpot, but if your epiphyllum does not grow very well, then you do not need to change a larger pot. (usually a plastic basin of about 20 centimeters is enough.)

When changing the basin, pay attention to check the condition of the soil, see if the soil is hardened, remove the old soil and withered roots.

If your epiphyllum has not blossomed for 1 or 2 years, don't lose heart and master the supplement of thin fertilizer and winter phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. About 3-4 years, your epiphyllum will blossom.
