A few days ago, the Climate Smart Major Food crop production Project, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and the World Bank and funded by the Global Environment Facility, was launched in Beijing.

This five-year project selects Yexian County, Henan Province and Huaiyuan County, Anhui Province, which are representative major grain producing areas in China, as project demonstration areas, through the introduction of international climate intelligent agricultural concepts and technologies, focus on the integration and demonstration of key technologies for emission reduction and carbon sequestration, and improve the utilization efficiency of inputs such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides and irrigation water by establishing a new agricultural production model with high yield, high efficiency and low emission. Increase soil carbon storage in farmland and reduce carbon emissions from crop systems.

Wang Yanliang, deputy director of the Department of Science, Technology and Education of the Ministry of Agriculture and director of the National Project Office of the Climate Intelligent Major Food crop production Project, said that for China, which has a population of 1.3 billion, we must consider the quantity and quality of agricultural production at the same time. Through the implementation of the project, we will explore how to do a good job of agricultural energy conservation and emission reduction while ensuring the output target and farmers' income. Reduce the impact of agricultural production on the producing environment and atmospheric environment, and find a way for the sustainable development of environment-friendly agriculture that suits the national conditions of our country.
