The Autumn Equinox will have plenty of rain in the coming years. During the the Autumn Equinox season on the 23rd, the Ministry of Agriculture held a national video conference on autumn and winter planting, proposing that the country should strive to sow 338 million mu of winter wheat this year.

Yu Xinrong, vice minister of agriculture, said at the meeting that planting in autumn and winter is the beginning of a year of agricultural production and a key battle to win a bumper harvest of grain and oil next summer. This year, in accordance with the general requirements of "striving for progress in the midst of stability," we should stabilize the sown area, strive to increase per unit yield, and strive to stabilize the area of winter wheat at 338 million mu and that of winter rape at more than 100 million mu.

It is understood that this year, autumn and winter varieties across the country are facing such difficulties as increasing per unit yield, increasing area stability, increasing pressure on drought resistance, sowing and seedling protection, and increasing downward pressure on domestic grain prices. The Ministry of Agriculture requires all localities to firmly grasp such favorable conditions as the strong signal of the state's emphasis on grain production, the stability of agricultural resources, and the quality of seed supply, to implement policies to stabilize the area, to popularize key technologies, to improve sowing quality, to strengthen management to ensure that strong seedlings survive the winter safely, and to consolidate the foundation for a bumper harvest of summer grain next year.

In 2014, the country's total output of summer grain reached 273.19 billion jin, an increase of 9.49 billion jin over 2013 and another all-time high.
