The benefits of being a tea farmer are very different.
Baixikou Village, Shaxian County, Fujian Province is a key village of local tea production, with 5 tea factories and a tea garden area of 1035 mu. As soon as the Fujian research team of the Ministry of Agriculture "being approachable and observing the feelings of the people" arrived in the village, Wu Kaifeng, the group leader, visited Qian Meiqing, 51, and Hong Zhongchun, 59, two old tea farmers.
"both tea farmers have been operating tea factories for about 30 years and have strong feelings for tea, but they have different 'tea classics' and different benefits in terms of brand management, management technology and development planning." Wu Kaifeng said.
With different brand awareness, the added value of tea is very different. Sister Qian paid attention to the brand and management. In 2000, she registered the trademark "Jin Fulan" for tea, and priced the tea according to market demand, ranging from 100,600 yuan per catty. In 2008, Jin Fulan tea factory joined the "Fujian Commercial Industry Association" and "Sanming Tea Association", expanding the influence of the tea factory; producing brochures and shooting video clips for brand promotion. Due to the sound management, the local media reported on the Jinfulan tea factory many times. In contrast, Uncle Hong said that "I am old and do not want to toss about". Tea has no trademark, no brand promotion and promotion, and the price is lower, with a wholesale price of 90 yuan per jin and a retail price of 120 yuan per jin. Uncle Hong sighed: "No matter how good the taste is, it's useless. No one knows without a brand, and you can't make any money."
The degree of attaching importance to management technology is different, and the product guarantee is different. Sister Qian believes that only with the improvement of management and technology can the quality of tea be guaranteed and the tea can be tasted better and better. She introduced high-quality Tieguanyin tree species from Anxi to ensure the quality from the source; participated in various local tea skills training courses and won the third prize in the "Shaxian Tea making hand Competition" in 2010; implemented centralized training and unified management for tea factory employees, and the tea factory was awarded as the "Women's demonstration Base" in Shaxian County in 2010. On the other hand, Uncle Hong's tea garden management is relatively extensive, tea production mainly depends on old experience, tea quality is unstable, and sales mainly rely on old customers. In 2012, Uncle Hong joined with five tea farmers to set up a tea cooperative, but due to neglect of management and other factors, the cooperative is nominal.
With different development ideas, the fate of tea factories is very different. Sister Qian devoted herself to making the Jinfulan tea factory "bigger and stronger" and applied to set up a family farm in the first half of this year. At present, the tea garden covers an area of more than 100 mu and can be picked four times a year. "it will definitely continue to operate, and it will get better and better," she said. " Under the background of the depressed tea market, Uncle Hong has abandoned some of the tea gardens. at present, the tea garden is only 20 mu, and there is no further development plan. "I don't know how long I can do it," he said. "
"Sister Qian has entered the ranks of a new type of business entity, and Uncle Hong is still a tea farmer in the traditional sense." Wu Kaifeng, head of the research team, said, "the government needs to support, encourage and guide these two types of tea farmers, implement differentiated policies and norms, and promote their development."
