On the occasion of the arrival of the 24th National Grain-loving and Grain-Saving publicity week, the State Grain Administration said today that China's post-natal grain loss is very wasteful, and there is great potential to save and cherish grain.

According to the estimates of relevant scientific research institutions and experts, due to the simple grain storage facilities of peasant households, omissions in grain handling and transportation, excessive or extensive processing, the annual grain loss in China is at least 70 billion jin, which is equivalent to 200 million people's annual food rations. Among them, due to the simple equipment of farmers' grain storage and the low level of storage technology, the grain loss rate caused by rodent, pest, mildew and other factors is about 8%, and the annual loss of farmers' grain storage is about 40 billion jin.

October 16 this year is the 34th World Food Day, and the week is the 24th national grain-loving and grain-saving propaganda week. The theme of this year's World Food Day is "Family Agriculture-supporting the World and caring for the Earth". The State Grain Administration said that the difficulty in promoting grain conservation lies in the large proportion of farmers' scientific grain storage base (according to the Ministry of Agriculture, there are 210 million grain farmers nationwide at present). Less than 3% of farmers have implemented the special program of scientific grain storage, and it is difficult to reduce the loss of grain storage (40 billion jin) in an all-round way. On the other hand, in the processing link, according to the relevant statistics of the State Grain Administration in 2013, the number of small enterprises with a daily production capacity of less than 50 tons in grain and oil processing enterprises accounts for about 20%, and the backward mode of production leads to a large number of processing losses and waste.
