China will build a new mechanism for grain saving and loss reduction

On the eve of the 34th World Food Day and the 24th National Grain Love and Saving publicity week, the State Grain Administration said at a press briefing held with the Ministry of Agriculture and other departments that China will vigorously promote the establishment of a new grain conservation and impairment mechanism led by the government, demand traction, national participation and social coordination, and strive to form an economical and intensive, green, low-carbon, scientific and healthy grain circulation mode and consumption pattern.

In order to promote the establishment of a new mechanism for grain conservation and impairment, the State Grain Administration has implemented the "Grain Safety Project", strengthened the research and development of key technologies for grain conservation and impairment, and promoted the four bulk logistics mode of raw grain "bulk, bulk transportation, bulk storage and bulk unloading". At the same time, by the end of 2014, a total of 8.17 million sets of new farmers' grain storage equipment will be allocated to 26 provinces across the country, which can reduce the grain storage loss of farmers by 900000 tons per year and reduce the storage loss rate of grain storage enterprises by an average of about 1.7 per cent.

It is understood that there is a serious postpartum loss and waste of grain in our country. It is estimated that due to poor facilities, omissions in grain handling and transportation, excessive or extensive processing, the annual grain loss caused by farmers' grain storage is more than 35 million tons, which is equivalent to 200 million people's one-year food rations.

According to the latest statistics, the China National Grain Reserve Corporation has completed the purchase of 25.35 million tons of wheat in the market this year, three times the amount purchased in the same period last year. The increase in purchase volume is mainly due to a bumper wheat harvest this year, with high output and good quality, farmers are satisfied with the lowest purchase price, and grain sales are enthusiastic. At the same time, the purchase of early indica rice completed a total of 4.19 million tons, a decrease compared with the same period last year. The purchase of wheat and early indica rice totaled 29.54 million tons.

According to reports, in view of this year's summer grain production and market situation and the tight warehouse capacity of early rice purchase in some areas, the China Grain Storage Corporation has increased the sales and transfer of existing policy grain stocks in accordance with the arrangements of relevant state departments. with the support of local governments, multiple measures have been taken to repair and build warehouses, and overall warehouse capacity scheduling has been taken to effectively solve the contradiction in the purchase of early rice in some areas of Jiangxi and Hunan. There is no "difficulty in selling grain" in all places.
