How do weak orchids recover?

In the process of orchid cultivation, plant diseases and insect pests, excessive rationing, improper cultivation and plant aging often lead to slow growth of orchid seedlings, and present yellow leaves, rotten roots, rotten buds and other morbid conditions. If rescue measures are not taken in time, these weak orchids will lose their ornamental value and eventually die of exhaustion, especially for some rare species, after the fragrance is sold, it will be difficult to find a trace. Saving the sick orchids was indeed a problem worthy of attention for those who loved orchids. Some successful experiences are introduced as follows for the reference of the majority of Lan friends.

I. Strict disinfection

Remove the seedlings from the original pot, discard the original soil, and carefully clean the roots. Cut off residual roots, dead roots and rotten roots with burning and sterilizing scissors, then soak them in 0.5% thiophane methyl or potassium permanganate solution for 5-10 minutes, drain and dry in the shade, repeat this twice or three times to completely kill pathogens. Note that when soaking roots disinfection to just be able to immerse the pseudobulb for the degree, do not make the leaf center water. At the same time, the above liquid medicine can be diluted 5 times and then the leaves can be sprayed for disinfection.

II. Change the bowl

Cultivation and maintenance of weak orchids to earthen pots and purple sand pots for the first choice. It is best to replace the unused new pots, because the old pots must have some residual fungi and bacteria that cause orchid disease. If you want to use the old basin, it is safer to clean it and expose it to the sun for a few days or pour it with boiling water before using it. Use a basin mat to ventilate the basin floor. Can buy special hydrophobic cover, can also use peach kernel, walnut shell and other natural materials. The height of the basin should be 1/3-1 /2 of the basin height, and the volume of the basin should be small rather than large. The root system of a weak orchid is relatively fragile. If the basin is too large, it is easy to cause ponding and cause the root to rot. Using small pots can avoid this problem.

III. Selection of substrate

The adaptability of weak orchid seedlings is poor, and the best cultivation substrate is granular substrate with medium fertility, less fat and good ventilation, such as ceramsite, foamed stone, coarse sand, broken brick particles, Emei fairy soil, gravel, etc. Can also be the root of the orchid plant and pseudo-bulbs wrapped in water moss and then planted to add the above-mentioned substrate pots, the effect is also good. All substrates must be disinfected before use. Humus soil should not be used to plant weak orchid seedlings. First, humus soil collected from the forest, more miscellaneous bacteria, difficult to thoroughly sterilize. Second, humus soil is easy to harden after using for a period of time, and its permeability is poor, which is unfavorable for orchid root growth.

IV. Temperature and humidity regulation

Plant weak orchids slightly deeper to protect false bulbs and keep them moist. The substrate in the basin should be kept in a moist state. Too much or too little water is not conducive to the rejuvenation of orchid seedlings. Hibernation period can increase matrix appropriately, usually cover false bulb, in order to keep false bulb wet, and play an anti-freezing role. When the temperature is higher than 15℃ in the spring of the following year, the substrate added in the winter of the previous year should be subtracted in time to facilitate the germination of new buds. Usually the temperature should be kept at 18-28℃.

Orchid seedlings should be placed in a place where scattered light can be seen, avoiding direct light. Can add a few birdbath, sink around orchid basin, in order to increase environmental humidity. (First True)
