Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Succulent plants are deeply loved by people because of their strong vitality, convenient breeding and lovely green appearance. When it blossoms, green fleshy leaves cluster with flowers, so do you wonder how it is pollinated? In fact, it is not difficult, we just need to find the stamen and rub it on the style of another flower.

1. Preparation before pollination

First of all, we should select two buds that bloom almost at the same time, and pay attention to the difference between stamens and pistils. The part where it spits out the small dewdrops is the stigma of the pistil, through which the pollen is transported to the ovary to complete the pollination process.

When the bud fully opened the second or third day, the stigma will appear small dewdrops, like burst pulp, we had better pollinate at this time, too early or too late will lead to pollination failure. The exploding head with a yellow color in the outer ring of the flower is the stamen, and you must wait for it to burst when you take the pollen.

2. Pollination steps

The opening of some flowers is relatively small, in order to facilitate pollination, it is necessary to cut off the calyx and petals on the periphery of the flower, and to prevent its own pollen from being granted to its own stigma, the stamens should also be cut off and set aside for use. Without the occlusion of sepals, the success rate of pollination is greatly improved, and the impurities on the calyx will not affect the seed collection.

Most succulent plants cannot self-pollinate, so the stamens cut from two flowers should be numbered to avoid confusion. The first stamen pollinates to the second style, and the second stamen pollinates to the first style. Wipe the cut stamens on the stigma of the No. 2 flower so that the pollen is evenly covered until the existence of pollen can be seen obviously. if there is honey on the stigma, the honey should be removed before pollination. After these steps, the pollination process is basically completed.

3. Wait for the seed to mature

After pollination, you can only wait for the seeds to mature slowly. After successful pollination, the seed pod will slowly crack as it matures, the seed will be properly exposed, and when the time comes, it will fall naturally, and a box can be placed under the seed pod to collect the fallen seeds.
