2014 "World Food Day" and "National Grain-loving and Grain-saving publicity week"

On October 16, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Food Administration and other relevant units and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization jointly held the 2014 "World Food Day" and "National Grain Love and Saving publicity week" in the auditorium of Tsinghua University. Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Grain Administration, international organizations in China, as well as representatives of teachers and students, primary and secondary school students, enterprises and the news media of Tsinghua University attended. Niu Dun, vice minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ren Zhengxiao, director of the State Grain Administration, and Miska, representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in China, attended the above-mentioned activities and delivered speeches.

Niu Dun pointed out in his speech that the theme of this year's "World Food Day" is "Family Agriculture: feeding the World and caring for the Earth." the aim is to emphasize the important role of family agriculture in maintaining food security, eradicating poverty, improving livelihoods, managing natural resources, protecting the environment, and achieving sustainable development in rural areas. This theme is very consistent with the national conditions of our country. Family agriculture is the main body of our agriculture, and farmers support the food supply of the whole country. They have worked hard and worked tirelessly to feed more than 1.3 billion people across the country and inherited the excellent agricultural civilization of China.

Niu Dun said that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to agricultural development and food security, continuously strengthened the policy of strengthening agriculture and benefiting farmers and rich farmers, and steadily increased the comprehensive grain production capacity. Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the Central Committee has clearly put forward the national food security strategy under the new situation, emphasizing the need to understand the extreme importance of food security from the perspective of governing the country. General Secretary Xi Jinping has stressed many times that this string must not be relaxed at any time to ensure the country's food security. For some time to come, we must firmly abide by the red line of cultivated land in accordance with the requirements of the national food security strategy, closely rely on science and technology to tap the potential for grain production, and unremittingly rely on the policy of strengthening farmers to benefit farmers and rich peasants to mobilize and protect the enthusiasm of production. we will speed up the cultivation of new types of agricultural operators and earnestly strengthen the working mechanism of attaching importance to agriculture and grain. In the future, we have full confidence in solving the problem of food for the Chinese people.

During the event, the sponsors of the national "CD-ROM" campaign, advanced typical figures of loving and saving grain, and representatives of major grain producers were also invited to speak at the meeting to introduce their typical examples of loving and saving grain. Participants in the "CD-ROM" activity of Tsinghua University read out the proposal to save one grain of grain jointly sponsored by the State Grain Administration, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and the all-China Women's Federation.
