The demonstration film of 100 mu high yield of japonica rice in Quantangzi is one of the 32 experimental demonstration sites distributed in Hunan province this year. According to the deployment of "early indica and late japonica" in double cropping rice areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River launched by the State Council, Hunan, a "big rice province", has introduced japonica rice since 2013 in order to further optimize the grain structure, improve rice quality and increase farmers' income. Now the suitable planting area has been expanded.

For farmers, the latter two are very important. Li Luobin said that in terms of increasing production and income, japonica rice can not only increase yield by 100,200kg per mu, and increase income by 150,000kg per mu, but also by purchasing at protective price, japonica rice is 20 yuan higher than indica rice per 50kg, which can increase farmers' income by 300 yuan per mu. And the addition of the two can increase farmers' income by 400,600 yuan per mu, which can reduce the phenomenon of abandoning wasteland and "changing from two to one". In terms of rice quality, the amylose content of japonica rice was significantly lower than that of indica rice, and the gel consistency of japonica rice was significantly higher than that of indica rice, so the palatability of japonica rice was better than that of indica rice.

Liu Dengkui, deputy director of Hunan Agricultural Technology extension Station, said that the results of the trial in 2013 showed that the Yongyou series of indica-japonica hybrid rice planted in Hunan generally increased by more than 40 kg per mu compared with the adjacent late indica rice at the same interplanting period. It has been growing satisfactorily this year, and the yield increase performance of late japonica will be even better.
