Huaxian County, Henan Province, Chengxinzhuang Village, Liugu Town, the demonstration side of the implementation of late harvest technology of corn field. According to experts, peeling and drying late-harvested corn will increase the corn yield by 10 kg per mu for every late harvest.

Autumn is strong, thousands of miles of fields, to spread the autumn grain harvest picture scroll. According to the agricultural regulation of the Ministry of Agriculture, a bumper harvest of autumn grain in Shandong, Henan and other provinces has become a foregone conclusion. According to preliminary production estimates, the area of autumn grain in Shandong Province is 55.475 million mu, an increase of 1.17 million mu, or 2.1%, over the previous year; and the total output is 46.976 billion jin, an increase of 800 million jin, or 1.7%, over the previous year.

Once upon a time, drought was tight and threatened the production of autumn grain in the North China Plain. Once upon a time, aphids and borer insects ate the basis of a bumper harvest of autumn grain in the North China Plain. The golden corn is telling that it is really "the year of the Ox and Horse, good farming", and another bumper harvest in the North China Plain.

Daejeon sleeps on the ditch, not worrying about drought and flood.

"I really didn't expect to have such a bumper harvest this year!" In the corn field of Guozhai Village, Linyi County, Shandong Province, Zhang Xinyao, a big grain grower known as the "grain king of Dezhou", can hardly hide his joy.

What a bumper harvest? Zhang Xinyao pointed to the corn field in front of him: "this is the field. The agricultural department of the county has just measured its yield, and the yield per unit area is more than 1200 jin."

This year's drought is unusual. It has been dry from spring to autumn. This is a severe drought that has not been seen in the meteorological history of Linyi for decades. No wonder the farmer brothers are all sweating for the autumn harvest. Chen Guangchun, deputy magistrate of Linyi County, said, and Zhang Xinyao chimed in: "seeing Daejeon grinning, can you not worry about it?"

Why can we still have a bumper harvest? Small farmers' water came in handy. In recent years, Linyi County has made great efforts to break through the thirsty "last kilometer" of crops. In 2012, a small farmers' water project was launched throughout the county to clean up the dead corners of irrigation and drainage. In July this year, the first phase of Linyi's "2013-2015 high-standard demonstration county for irrigation and water conservancy construction" was completed and put into use, with a total investment of 24.12 million yuan, 14 new small-scale pumping stations and 72 culverts, 56.3km of dredging ditches, 26km of new production roads, 129km of pipelines, and 23000 mu of high-standard irrigation area. Six new technologies such as soil moisture monitoring, unmanned monitoring and automatic alarm are adopted, and irrigation informatization is basically realized.

After the small-scale farmers' water project is in place, the farmland irrigation conditions in Linyi County have been significantly improved. The effective irrigation area of the county has reached 701000 mu, the area of water-saving irrigation has reached 410000 mu, the annual saving of irrigation water is 120 million cubic meters, and the comprehensive grain production capacity of the county has increased by 12%, with an average annual increase of 38.8 million kg and farmers' income of 4038 yuan.

Water conservancy projects enhance the comprehensive production capacity of grain. In the year of severe drought, the role of water conservancy in ensuring crops has once again been confirmed in Huaxian County, Henan Province.

Huaxian County has 1.95 million mu of arable land, planting more than 2.7 million mu of grain all the year round, with a total output of 2.7 billion jin. It is a typical agricultural county, a populous county and a major grain county. It is known as the "granary of northern Henan". It is the first wheat county in China, the first grain-producing county in Henan Province, and the advanced "eleven consecutive champions" in national grain production.

The drought, which has not been encountered for many years, makes Huaxian County very worried. Since 1963, grain production in Huaxian County has never experienced such a severe drought. As Huaxian County has always attached great importance to the construction of farmland infrastructure, "in the end, the drought has not done anything to us." Chen Zhong, the county magistrate, sighed very much.

Since 2012, Huaxian County has planned 33 high-standard grain fields of 10,000 mu, 38 of 1000 mu and 10 of 100 mu, with a planned area of 1.55 million mu, comprehensively planning land management, water conservancy irrigation and drainage, field roads, forest network protection, electric power supporting and other projects, centralized construction, farmland infrastructure has been improved, the county has more than 36000 motor wells, and the effective irrigation area has reached 1.5606 million mu.

"Daejeon sleeps on the canal, and he doesn't have to worry about drought and flood." Chen Zhong said: in the face of the severe drought this autumn, Huaxian County has advanced planning and scientific response, winning the battle to fight drought and ensure a bumper harvest of autumn grain, and the yield measurement is also a bumper harvest.
