Reduce the proportion of corn feed and get rid of the strange circle of selling low and buying high.
"in the past, there was zero profit in raising pigs, but now it is good. If straw is used instead of corn as feed, raising a pig can increase the income by 200 yuan." The words of Liu Bin, a farmer in Karen Village, Xingyuan Township, Songyuan Economic and technological Development Zone, revealed the gratifying changes in the pig industry in the whole village.
A few years ago, the pork market fluctuated greatly. Most pig farmers in Karen village could not keep pace with the changes in the market, sold their piglets at a low price when they saw a sharp drop in pork prices, and spent a high price on buying piglets when they found that pork prices rose sharply. Pork prices fell again when they were fattened out. This situation of selling low and buying high has seriously affected the efficiency of raising pigs and the enthusiasm of farmers to raise pigs.
In the face of this problem, Zheng Guibin, head of the Karen Village Pig raising Professional Cooperative, first tried to use straw instead of corn as feed on his own pig farm. Corn used to account for 80% of the feed, but now it is reduced to 40%, and the other 40% is replaced by straw. The experimental results show that the feeding cost is reduced, but it does not affect the growth and fattening of pigs. In the current market conditions, each pig out of the pen to increase the income of about 200 yuan, even if calculated according to the lowest pork prices in the past, it will not be zero profit.
The cost-reducing feeding method was extended to every farmer of the Karen Village Pig raising Professional Cooperative, which soon changed the unfavorable situation of the pig industry in the village, and farmers who gave up raising pigs because of zero profits in the past began to raise pigs again. Not long ago, when receiving visitors from other places, Zheng Guibin said: "now I am feeding grass to pigs. After crushing the straw and fermenting it with a biological starter, I will let it replace grain and turn it into pork in exchange for banknotes."
