This paper introduces a new method of disease prevention and treatment: the role of hydrogen peroxide (commonly known as hydrogen peroxide: H2O2; molecular weight: 34.016) in the prevention and treatment of stem rot and soft rot of orchids.
Since the beginning of spring this year, it has been a hot and hot summer. Many orchid friends have not been panicked by the emergence of BLS, but they have been hurt by soft rot and stem rot. Some orchid friends have paid a heavy price for this, and I have also been hit hard. There are several reasons for this:
1. Despise the sterilization and disinfection of orchid fields and planting pots. Some orchid friends do not know to sterilize and disinfect until they feel sad when there is soft rot and stem rot. Of course, it is also too late to mend. It is not easy to look forward to the new seedlings, some of them are difficult to guard against, and if they are gone overnight, it is tantamount to losing the achievements they got in that year.
2. Reckless extensive management, fertilizer and water spraying, pesticide application, water injury and drug injury create conditions for bacterial infection; some new seedlings are found to be soft rot later (2 min 3 days), which affects the mother seedling, resulting in black rot at the base of the edge leaves of the mother seedling, early leaf withdrawal, and even seedling reversal.
3. Lack of experience. Many soft rot and stem rot mostly occur on the deeply planted half-year-old grass and seedlings, which are young and tender, because the new buds are drilled out in the roots, and the water area of the new buds and seedlings is too large. The more inscribed the product, the more inevitable the accumulation of water in the bracts. Can not pull out the plant material in time to breathe, resulting in soft rot, stem rot.
4, carelessness, not timely treatment, often look at the new seedlings growing from the depths are very strong, it is estimated that there will not be a problem, the result is a problem. Others use fertilizer that is not fully mature, which causes the soil temperature to rise and burns the new seedlings to cause infection.
It can be said that the soft rot killed Lanyou is frightened and helpless.
As we all know, soft rot is caused by Escherichia coli (bacterial). The optimum temperature for this bacteria to grow and reproduce is between 25 and 40 ℃, the soil is moist, and the PH value is 3. 5Mel 6, when the PH value of the plant is above 7, or the ambient temperature is 50 ℃ after 10 minutes, the soft rot of the new seedling is accompanied by the stem rot of the old seedling. Stem rot is also very annoying. Stem rot is caused by Pythium and Fusarium oxysporum. Pythium develops fastest under the condition of high temperature and humidity, while Fusarium oxysporum develops fastest under the condition of high temperature and drying. The former shows that the leaf base blackens from the bottom to the top, and the reverse osmosis leads to death, while the latter shows that the leaf base is yellowed, dry and dehydrated, and the yellow leaves break off and retreat ahead of time.
There is a common symptom of soft rot and stem rot. According to my observation for many years, when under normal management, other orchid pots are dry, and the infected orchid pots are not dry for 3 days, or even for 4 days. This is a symptom of the decline of water absorption and transport function of orchid roots and bulbs. Measures should be taken to prevent expansion.
In the process of preventing and controlling soft rot and stem rot, this year I tried a new approach, which is to use hydrogen peroxide (commonly known as hydrogen peroxide). This product is a colorless transparent liquid. Non-toxic, has a certain corrosive effect on the skin, is a strong oxidation germicidal disinfectant. More than 25% of the concentration belongs to explosive dangerous goods and is specially controlled goods. 3% of hydrogen peroxide is sold in general pharmaceutical stores. Treatment of orchid seedling soft rot and stem rot is this concentration. Preventive use can double the amount of water. Specific operation: because the Eucalyptus that causes soft rot lives on water and generally accumulates around the corm, it does not need to take off the basin, but can be injected into the affected site and around the pseudo-corm with a needle. If it is found that the base of the bulb leaf is black and yellowing, pick it out with a needle and inject a small amount of hydrogen peroxide solution, once a day, twice a day, and thoroughly irrigate the root with clean water after 30 minutes each time. Put it in the ventilated place for a week after the root irrigation with clear water, and do not water it within a week, which can control the development of the disease.
During the growing period of orchids, it is good for orchids and orchids to sterilize and disinfect orchids alternately with potassium permanganate 1000 and hydrogen peroxide solution 100.
Hydrogen peroxide 500 ml bottle, about 10 yuan, I went to the store to buy 30% hydrogen peroxide, 500 ml to 90 yuan or so. Make up the solution of 1 Mel 3 hand 100 to use it. High concentration hydrogen peroxide safety reminder: put it in a seal. Avoid shaking violently in the shade. High concentrations of hydrogen peroxide are corrosive to the skin, so be careful not to touch your hands. The corrosion of low concentration is small, and you can wash it with water in time when you touch your hand.
Hope Lanyou to try, no side effects, compared to copper sulfate, lime water, agricultural streptomycin sulfate to much safer! Let soft rot, stem rot no longer confuse us, so that new seedlings can be fruitful and thrive!
