A little bit of experience in nurturing cold orchids down the mountain (orchid friends in Zhejiang should not be missed)

Qingtian in southern Zhejiang has beautiful scenery and outstanding people. Along the Oujiang River, there are towering mountains, stacked peaks, four distinct seasons and a pleasant climate. Orchids are rich in resources, especially cold orchids. Some people call Hanlan Donglan and Oulan among the people.

In the northwest of Qingtian County along the Oujiang River tributary basin-Wanshan Township. Between 400 and 600 meters above sea level on the steep slope of Jianfeng Mountain, streams flow through the mountains, and different varieties of cold orchids are found in the foggy broad-leaved forest. There are blue stem blue and white flower, purple stem purple flower, summer cold orchid and so on.

I roughly did the practice of seasonal temperature and humidity measurement in the original place where Han Lan was introduced. There is snow on the top of the mountain in winter, and the temperature in the broad-leaved forest is still 8 degrees Celsius. In the hot summer weather, the temperature under the broad-leaved forest is still 28 degrees Celsius, and the breeze is familiar and the air is fresh. The relative humidity is 75%, so the natural environment is really warm in the east and cool in summer, so it forms the growth characteristic of cold orchid bogey. I was introduced into the mountain in early October 2001 and was divided into two groups.

In one group, small and medium-sized immortal soil was used for cultivation of plant materials, and medium-sized granular immortal soil was used to cover the bottom. 1/3 places were cultivated upward with small particles to about one centimeter above the false bulb. Water the plant thoroughly. Keep it in the open air where there is no direct sunlight. After the Winter Solstice, the cold spell came and the temperature dropped to 5 degrees Celsius. Cold orchids will be frostbitten below 5 degrees Celsius and must be moved indoors to survive the winter. At this time, depending on the basin soil dry and wet watering, it should be sprayed and humidified on the leaf surface at noon. In the coming year, the Spring Equinox went out of the room and placed normal care in the open air (more than 70% of the sun must be shaded). Cold orchid has different requirements for water in different seasons. As long as the soil does not accumulate water in the rainy season in June, it will not hurt the roots. The summer temperature is high, the plant water evaporation is large, and water is watered once every morning (depending on the planting environment). Splash water on the ground around the flowerpot. One is to increase humidity but reduce the temperature, the maximum temperature should be controlled at about 30 degrees Celsius. Create a man-made planting environment. The survival rate of cold orchid is 100% and its growth is good. The root system is thicker, whiter, more developed and blossoms year after year than when it came down the mountain.

In the second group, under the same management method, but with different plant materials (humus soil, mountain mud), different results were obtained-the root system of the plant was underdeveloped, the plant grew slowly, the new buds were not strong, and there were no flowers. The reason is that the basin soil condenses and the air permeability is poor in the rainy season from April to June.

Thus it can be seen that the cultivation of cold orchid should be based on the location, environment, plant materials and other factors to determine a variety of different care methods, in order to make cold orchid grow well. In fact, it is not difficult to raise a cold orchid, as long as you master the right method, it will be full of vitality, leaves and flowers.
