Liu Jie, a villager from Huangdun Village, Huangdun Town, Huaining County, Anhui Province, is busy transporting 3700 kilograms of rice with moisture just harvested to Xu Fuyun's farm, a big grain grower in the village, Nov.18.

Why did Liu Jie send his own grain to Xu Fuyun's farm? "There are large dryers on the farm that dry the rice so that it doesn't mold even if it rains." Liu Jie, who is quick to speak, broke the secret in one word.

So how did Xu Fuyun think of buying a grain dryer? This goes back to before 2012. Through land circulation, Xu Fuyun became a well-known grain grower in Huangdun Town. He planted more than 2000 mu of rice and wheat every year. "After early rice harvest, the moisture content of rice is relatively high. In addition, there is more rain, so rice is easy to germinate and rot." And before that, he had no choice. Even if the weather was fine, he had to harvest and dry the grain at the same time, and there was no time for both; besides, drying the rice took several days. Even more disturbing is that there is no large grain drying ground in the village for drying. "In 2010, my rice and wheat were mildewed because there was no place to dry them, resulting in direct economic losses of more than 400,000 yuan."

In 2012, Xu Fuyun accidentally saw news about grain dryers, and he resolutely invested 2.4 million yuan to buy two large dryers. Sure enough, these two dryers have a place to use in the continuous rainy weather in 2013. A large dryer can dry 50 tons of grain on average every day. Xu Fuyun pinched his finger and carefully calculated an account: In the past, drying rice was not only limited by the site, but also asked people to help dry it. Generally drying takes 3 days, labor cost is 1 jiao/kg, 50 tons of rice costs 5000 yuan; and the current machine drying cost is 6 cents/kg, 50 tons of rice drying cost is 3000 yuan, the cost is 2000 yuan lower than before. "Also, before drying rice in the field, because chickens and ducks peck, waste a lot. Now that I've switched to machine drying, I don't have to worry about that anymore."

Seeing that the rice sent by Liu Jie was quickly dried, Hu Zuzhi, a villager of Jiangling Village in Huangdun Town, also pulled all the harvested more than 30 tons of rice to Xu Fuyun's farm. Hu Zuzhi said: "The dryer can completely dry the moisture of the rice, which is faster than natural drying." More importantly, I can now free up more time to engage in other activities. Otherwise, I don't know how much money I will lose every day."

Speaking of the benefits of grain dryers, Qian Shiping, director of the Agricultural Committee of Huaining County, said: "The use of these equipment can save labor and cost on the one hand, and effectively enhance farmers 'ability to resist natural disasters and ensure food security on the other hand. At present, our county is mainly guiding large grain growers like Xu Fuyun to solve the problem of rice drying by purchasing dryers, hoping to drive farmers to voluntarily use them through them."

Zheng Jiuhan, head of the county's agricultural machinery bureau, introduced that in order to improve farmers 'enthusiasm for growing grain and solve the grain drying problem of farmers, especially large grain growers, Huaining County also gave strong support to large grain growers in terms of machine selection, technical services, fund raising, etc. on the basis of subsidies from the national agricultural machinery policy. "The government subsidized 70,000 yuan for the two dryers I bought last year." Xu Fuyun proudly said,"Some of the big grain growers I know can also borrow money to buy dryers through financing platforms established by the government." It is reported that there are more than 10 family farms in Huaining County with grain drying equipment and 70 large and small grain dryers.
