Management of Orchid Sprouts unearthed-- opening period

With the recovery of temperature in spring, orchids also began to grow. Take Chunlan as an example (the same below), the cultivation of the natural environment in Shanghai will generally have orchid buds coming out of the soil one after another in late April, and May is the period of high incidence of orchid buds. From gestation, unearthing to seedling formation, orchid buds go through three stages: opening stage, growth stage and knot stage, which lasts for more than half a year. Therefore, the management of Lanya means a year's harvest, which should not be taken lightly.

The period from the expansion of the blue bud in the soil to the opening can be called the opening period, which takes more than one and a half months.

In order to make their beloved orchids sprout early and more buds, the spring buds summed up by Yilan's predecessors can be used for reference. That is, it is necessary to keep the basin surface moist (more moisturizing), increase the basin soil temperature (bask in the sun more) and reduce ventilation from the middle of March. Some people use drugs or hormones to make orchids sprout more, you can try, but do not advocate. During this period of fertilization should be mainly nitrogen fertilizer, root application and foliar spraying, can be a little thicker, because the temperature is not high, not too often, once or twice is enough.

In general, when the orchid bud is unearthed 2-3 cm, there will be a pause for more than a week to grow, and the root of some varieties will grow at the same time. When the root is 2-3 cm long, it will be able to transport nutrients for the new bud. At this time, the management is very important. Many orchid friends found that the phenomenon of rigid bud and even premature death of their new orchid sprouts are related to improper management during this period. At this time, the management should pay attention to three points: first, do not apply thick fertilizer, especially root fertilization, the root tip of the new bud is very delicate, encounter fertilizer will be burned out and no longer grow; second, the humidity should be appropriately higher to promote root growth (Lanyou's experience is: properly keep the plant material dry, especially the surface plant material, force the new root of the orchid bud to grow downward) The third is to bask in the sun more to promote the metabolism of orchids and induce the growth of orchids.

The above is my personal experience. I wish orchids of orchid friends sprout a lot.
