The National Bureau of Statistics announced on the 4th that the country's total grain output in 2014 reached 607.099 million tons (1.2142 trillion jin), an increase of 5.16 million tons (10.32 billion jin) or 0.9 percent over 2013. China's total grain output has achieved "eleven consecutive increases".

According to the announcement, the country's total grain output in 2014 was 557.269 million tons (1.11454 trillion jin), an increase of 4.577 million tons (9.15 billion jin) over 2013. Grains mainly include corn, rice, wheat, barley, sorghum, buckwheat, oats and so on.

According to the sampling survey of agricultural production and operation households in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics and the comprehensive statistics of agricultural production and management units, the grain sown area in China in 2014 was 112738.3 thousand hectares (1.691074 billion mu), an increase of 0.7 percent over the previous year. The grain yield per unit area was 5385 kg / ha (359kg / mu), an increase of 0.2 per cent over the previous year.
