Preliminary establishment of breeding technology system of resin pine in China

Last Updated: 2024/11/05, A few days ago, the breeding technology system of Pinus massoniana and Pinus elliottii, jointly established by Yalin Institute of Chinese Academy of Forestry in conjunction with Guangxi Academy of Forestry and Fujian Academy of Forestry, was examined and approved by the Science and Technology Department of the State Forestry Administration. This marks the initial establishment of a breeding technology system for resin pine in China.

A few days ago, the breeding technology system of Pinus massoniana and Pinus elliottii, jointly established by Yalin Institute of Chinese Academy of Forestry in conjunction with Guangxi Academy of Forestry and Fujian Academy of Forestry, was examined and approved by the Science and Technology Department of the State Forestry Administration. This marks the initial establishment of a breeding technology system for resin pine in China.

At present, the project has completed the genetic arrangement of the existing superior tree clones of Pinus massoniana and Pinus elliottii. A large number of two kinds of superior trees of Pinus massoniana and Pinus elliottii were screened in Guangxi, Fujian and Jiangxi, and 511 superior tree germplasm were collected and preserved. Three resin Masson pine and one resin slash pine breeding populations were established in Guangxi, Fujian and Zhejiang. The project team selected 28 new strains with early rapid growth and high fat production, increased lipid production by 31.64% to 169.73%, and selected 52 new hybrid germplasm.

The study also found that the use of fat components can be used for early identification of high-yield fat varieties. The research group built 265 mu of clonal seed orchard of Pinus massoniana and Pinus elliottii, 14 mu of ear nursery and 620 mu of experimental demonstration forest, and preliminarily put forward the high yield management techniques of seed orchard such as truncated dwarfing and genetic management. it broke through the high-efficiency cutting asexual propagation technology of resin pine. The results of the project provide important technical support for the construction of resin pine raw material forest and the development of rosin industry in China.
