Last Updated: 2024/11/05, The flowering period of camellias is about January to April. If you want to prolong the flowering period, you should provide suitable growth conditions for camellias according to their growth habits. It has high requirements for the nature of the soil, so it is appropriate to use good drainage, loose and fertile sandy soil culture, and its flower soil must remain acidic, PH adjusted to the best 5.5 to 6.5. Because it fears the wind and likes the sun, it needs to be placed in a place with less wind, giving sufficient sunshine every day, but should be properly shaded in summer, and the room temperature should be kept between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, and the environmental humidity is about 70%, so as to prolong its flowering period.

1. Temperature

The suitable growth temperature for camellias is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is higher than 29 degrees Celsius, it will stop growing, and when the temperature reaches 35 degrees Celsius, it will burn the flowers without control.

2. Soil

It likes acidic environment and needs acidic loam with good air permeability to facilitate the development of root hair. PH is controlled between 5.5and 6.5. it is usually cultivated with red soil or humus, peat and sawn wood as substrate, and the better choice is sandy soil, humus soil or loess.

3. Lighting

It needs plenty of light every day, but avoid strong light. In spring, autumn and winter, it is fine even if no shading measures are taken, but when the summer sun is hot, it needs 50% shading to avoid direct sunlight to protect leaves and flowers from being burned.

4. Watering

According to the external humidity for appropriate watering, with neutral or acidic water, each watering should be thoroughly. Watering frequency can be low, but every time to ensure that water can fully permeate the soil, do not let the soil dry and do not allow water in the flowerpot, otherwise too humid environment will lead to rotting roots.

5. Flower fertilizer

Generally speaking, it is necessary to apply flower fertilizer with higher alum content before flowering to supplement the nutrients needed for flowering. Slightly applying flower fertilizer with higher P and K content during flowering can make its flowers expand and colorful. And increase the time of flowering.
