China's poultry industry has three outstanding advantages: large industrial base, high concentration and obvious export advantages. There are more than 40 million farms (households) and more than 70 million employees in China. The output value of poultry raising is 690 billion yuan, accounting for 23% of the total output value of animal husbandry. Broiler breeding is mainly concentrated in Shandong, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Guangxi, Liaoning and Henan provinces. Poultry production accounts for 52.9% of the country's total output. Layer farming is mainly concentrated in Shandong, Henan, Hebei, Liaoning and Jiangsu provinces, with egg production accounting for 56.8% of the country's total output and poultry exports accounting for 35.8% of the total livestock products.

In early 2014, human cases of H7N9 flu re-emerged, further exacerbating losses in the poultry industry, which had not yet recovered from the 2013 epidemic. In order to safeguard the interests of the poultry industry, the Poultry Branch of the China Animal Husbandry Association actively responded to human infection with H7N9 virus and organized poultry enterprises to participate in self-rescue. The association made full use of its own advantages to correct the name "H7N9 bird flu". The association sent staff to visit and investigate the production, operation and losses of poultry enterprises, convey the demands of poultry enterprises in a timely manner, and reduce the damage caused by the disease to the poultry industry. With the great concern of the whole society, the state has introduced the subsidy policy for ancestral breeder chickens, and Guangdong, Guangxi, Zhejiang and other places have also introduced policies such as discount on enterprise liquidity loans and subsidies for the collection and storage of live poultry processing, and increased publicity and guidance to boost consumer confidence in the poultry market.

According to relevant data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, the prices of poultry products in 2014 were higher than those in the same period last year. Driven by the recovery of consumption and holiday consumption, the prices of poultry products showed a restorative rise. However, recently, there have been human H7N9 influenza outbreaks in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong, and the uncertain factors for the stable development of the poultry industry have increased. The whole industry has gathered efforts to fight against H7N9 influenza.
