With the approaching pace of the Year of the Sheep, Xu Jiaxiang, a big grain grower in the country, is getting more and more excited. A succession of good news makes him look forward to the new year.

Xu Jiaxiang, born in 1963, is a farmer in Group 5, Maoling Village, Anshan Street, Jiangxia District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. More than 10 years ago, he began to lease uncultivated fields around him to plant grain. At present, the transferred land area is 1045 mu, planting rice, lotus root and other crops. The annual total grain output is 1 million jin, lotus root is 1.7 million jin, and the annual output value of fresh fish is 30,000 jin, with a total output value of 3 million yuan. Drive 500 farmers in Qingchun Village, Maoling Village and Tianpu Village of Fasi Street around Anshan Street to plant 3000 mu of high-quality rice and 1500 mu of high-quality lotus root, increasing income of more than 1000 yuan per household. In 2011, it was rated as "National Grain Grower and Grain Seller", the 15th Model Worker of Wuhan City, and the Top Ten Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Households of Wuhan City in 2012.

Half a month ago, Xu Jiaxiang's Anshan Sub-district Office held a special meeting on the road facilities construction of its grain production base. It was clear that the tractor roads, ditches and agricultural electricity of the base would be matched in 2015, which was tantamount to eating a "reassurance pill" for Xu Jiaxiang.

"More than 100 mu of wild lotus do not worry about sales, the price per catty also rose more than 1 yuan, calculated down can earn more than 100,000 yuan." After several years of trying, Xu Jiaxiang's diversified planting began to pay off, which also made Lao Xu confident about 2015. "Do three things well this year, increase the output value by 30%, and increase the net profit by 300,000 yuan." On January 3, Xu Jiaxiang's tone was confident in the face of remembered inquiries.

"The first thing is to expand the grain planting area by 400 mu." Xu Jiaxiang told reporters that although rice benefits are not high, but relatively stable, he has always wanted to expand rice area, but suffer from no tractor road, some rice field machinery can not enter. In 2015, the street will focus on supporting the infrastructure construction of the base, and the "roadblock" with the largest expansion area will be completely solved."Add 2 machines, expand the grain area to 1500 mu, and earn more than 100,000 yuan."

"The second thing is to try raising turtles in rice." Xu Jiaxiang, who likes "tinkering" and "new plate eyes", has been trying to broaden the income channel while growing grain in recent years. Now, wild lotus roots begin to benefit, and rice interbreeding crayfish is gradually on track. "In the new year, I will try to raise turtles in 100 mu of rice fields. I hope I can succeed. If I can't, I'd better lose less." he said.

"The third thing is to start the cooperative." Xu Jiaxiang said that last year he established rice cooperatives with more than 20 farmers around him. He plans to build a new rice processing plant this year and declare the brand again to realize the whole process from production to market. At present, the processing plant has chosen a good location, and there are some prospects for fund raising."It would be better if there is project fund support."

"The state should increase subsidies for large grain households, so that there will be enthusiasm for growing grain." Xu Jiaxiang said frankly, planting rice and other cash crops compared, the benefit is basically "bottom", plus large households mostly transfer land, some policy subsidies directly compensate to the hands of land contracting farmers, large households are difficult to enjoy, resulting in planting benefits do not go up. "Giving more policy support is the common wish of large grain growers." Xu Jiaxiang told reporters.
