All plants have two parts: the branches and leaves of the ground part and the root system of the lower part. If you want to plant a plant well, you must understand the relationship between its roots and branches and leaves. There are four formulas to sum up this relationship: "they nourish each other physiologically, grow alternately morphologically, balance each other in growth, and are symmetrical in anatomy."

The first three sentences are easy to understand, and the best one for those of us who play with bonsai needs to be understood. To put it bluntly, it can be understood that no matter how long the branches and leaves are, how long the roots are. When we deal with bonsai materials, the roots are rarely kept intact, especially for some mountain materials, the original roots are basically few, but the branches and leaves are easy to be preserved.

With few roots and full branches and leaves, planting plants in this case is basically bound to die. The reason is that the original balance of the plant is broken, and the root system can not provide enough nutrition to the branches and leaves and can not grow alternately. Because roots are closely related to branches and leaves. For example, when the branches and leaves of a plant grow unevenly (that is, one side has luxuriant branches and the other has solitary leaves), then the root system under the plant is also strong on one side and thin on the other.

At this time, we must take measures to correct the relationship between the root system and the branches and leaves at the same time:

First, the branches and leaves are pruned differently, the one with strong growth potential is specially cut, the cutting mouth leaves weak branches and thin buds, while the weak growing side is gently cut, and the cutting mouth leaves strong branches and strong buds.

The second is to supply different fertilizer and water to the root system, less fertilizer and water is applied on the side with strong growth potential, and more fertilizer and water is applied on the side with weak growth potential. In this way, we can press the strong and help the weak in order to strike a balance.

Based on this characteristic of plants, the processing of bonsai materials must be willing to work hard and re-cut the branches.

This is a pruning process of green boxwood.
