Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Many flower friends do not know how to distinguish between gardenia and jasmine, in fact, the florescence of the former is shorter than the latter, and the former is mainly a single flower, while the latter generally has three or more flowers growing together; the flower and leaf of the former is longer than the latter, and the fruit is larger than the latter; the bud of the former is more sharp, and the latter is more round; the branches of the former are gray, while those of the latter are brown.

I. Flowers

First of all, in terms of flowering time, although their flowers begin to bloom in May and June, the former usually only blooms until August, while the latter can bloom until November. In terms of flower shape, the former is usually a single flower, while the latter generally has three or more flowers blooming together; the calyx of the former is generally split into 5 pieces, while the latter is 8-9 pieces.

II. Flowers and leaves

If they are not yet in bloom, we can distinguish them from the flowers and leaves. Although the flowers and leaves of both are oval, very dark green and shiny, there is an obvious difference between them, that is, length. The mosaic of the former is generally about 12, while the latter is generally 3-8cm. From this point, we can easily distinguish them.

Third, flower bud

If they grow buds in April and May, we can also distinguish them according to this. In comparison, the bud of the former is more pointed, while that of the latter is more round.

4. Fruit

The fruit of the former is oval, relatively large, 1.5-7cm long, 1.2-2cm in diameter, mostly yellow or orange-red, with straight edges on it and a cavity inside, in which there are many seeds, while the fruit of the latter is spherical, relatively small, about 1cm in diameter and purplish black.

5. Branches and stems

We can also distinguish them by plucking away its leaves and observing its main branches, the former of which are gray and the latter brown.
