The Beijing News reported on April 23 that the Ministry of Health announced 66 new national standards for dairy safety yesterday. The Ministry of Health explained that melamine has been included in the list of non-edible substances, and the new national standards for dairy safety no longer set melamine-related regulations.

The new national dairy safety standards include 15 dairy product standards, 2 production specifications and 49 inspection method standards. According to the ministry, the new national dairy safety standard basically solves the problems of contradiction, duplication, intersection and unscientific index setting in the current dairy standards.

For example, the infant food standard is 4 items, compared with 11 items in the past. The Ministry of Health explained that although the standard has been reduced, it basically covers all kinds of infant food. "In addition to the revision of pollutant and microbial indicators, nutrient requirements have also been adjusted according to the actual situation in China."

In the new national standard, no longer set melamine related provisions, will it lead to dairy enterprises to add melamine at will? The Ministry of Health said four blacklists were published in 2008 as part of a special campaign to crack down on "illegal addition of non-edible substances." Melamine and its detection methods are included. Therefore, there are no longer melamine related regulations.
