In the 2014 National Science and Technology Award recently announced, the new natural anthraquinone compound agricultural fungicide, a green biological pesticide developed by Yu Dazhao's team of Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, won the second prize for national scientific and technological progress. It is understood that this new biological pesticide has a disease prevention effect of more than 90% on crops, which is better than chemical pesticides, and "vegetables and fruits can be eaten the next day after spraying." At present, the cumulative use of the pesticide has exceeded 20 million mu, increasing revenue and saving expenditure up to 4.3 billion yuan.

A new type of natural anthraquinone agricultural fungicide is a biological pesticide with rhubarb and other Polygonaceae plants as the basic raw materials. As early as 2000, Yu Dazhao, president of Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and his team began to study botanical fungicides. Yu Dazhao said that the team first took powdery mildew, sheath blight, Verticillium wilt and anthracnose of grain, vegetables and cash crops as research objects, isolated and purified from 63 species of plants in 34 families, and obtained a large number of secondary organisms with bactericidal activity. 15 natural anthraquinone compounds were confirmed for the first time to be active against plant pathogens, of which 12 substances such as emodin methyl ether had excellent activity.

Next, however, there is a big problem. Biological pesticides also need to be sprayed, so their preparations must be soluble in water. However, the water solubility of anthraquinone compounds such as emodin methyl ether is very poor, so it is difficult to process into aqueous preparation. Finally, through the innovation of preparation processing technology and the addition of inorganic solvents, anthraquinone compounds are completely soluble in water, which not only ensures the full play of its activity, but also greatly improves the germicidal efficacy, but also avoids the use of toxic organic solvents. Ensure that the preparation is environmentally friendly and low toxic.

In 2008, the drug received a new interim registration certificate for pesticides from the Ministry of Agriculture and a formal registration certificate in 2013. In 2008, the Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology organized relevant experts to identify the results of the project, and experts agreed that the results reached the international advanced level, and won the first prize for technological invention in Hubei Province in the same year.

Compared with conventional chemical pesticides, the dosage of new natural anthraquinone fungicides is less, but the disease prevention effect is more than 90%, and the disease prevention effect is stable. Moreover, it is safe, non-toxic and residue-free for users, which can effectively reduce the use of chemical pesticides, ensure the production safety of vegetables, and reduce environmental pollution. It is precisely because the disease prevention effect is better than the commonly used chemical fungicides, the drug has been listed in the national spark program to promote products, and has been certified by the European Union ECOCERT organic. In this way, extensive use in agricultural export bases can meet the requirements of developed countries for the minimum limits of pesticide residues in agricultural products, and promote the export of agricultural products in China.

Since its promotion in 2008, the pesticide has been produced more than 1770 tons, of which more than 500 tons have been exported to Italy, Israel, South Korea, India, the Philippines and other countries. It has been widely used in Hubei, Shandong, Hunan, Yunnan, Tianjin and other places in China, with a total use area of 21.16 million mu, increasing revenue and saving 4.3 billion yuan. In addition, the raw materials for the production of new natural anthraquinone fungicides can be planted in deserts and barren land, which also provides a new way for farmers to get rich.
