The qualified rate of routine monitoring is increasing year by year.

In April 2001, the Ministry of Agriculture launched the pollution-free Food Action Plan throughout the country to carry out routine monitoring of vegetable quality and safety in more than 90 cities in 36 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities). The monitoring links are vegetable production bases, wholesale markets, farmers' markets and supermarkets. At present, 58 kinds of pesticides are monitored, which are often used in vegetable production. More than 80 kinds of vegetables are monitored, covering the main varieties of production and consumption, and more than 18000 vegetable samples are tested every year.

Through more than 10 years of work, the production of pollution-free vegetables has been promoted, the quality and safety level of vegetables has been greatly improved, and the qualified rate of monitoring projects has increased year by year and stabilized at a high level.

The detection rate of restricted pesticides has been greatly reduced.

The improvement of the quality and safety level of vegetables reflects that, first, forbidden pesticides such as methamidophos and parathion have not been detected; second, the number of times of detection and exceeding the standard of restricted pesticides such as omethoate and carbofuran have also been greatly reduced, which is no longer the main cause of substandard vegetables; third, the detection value has also gradually decreased, although there are still some vegetables with pesticide residues detected, but the general detection value is not high, basically lower than the limit value.

At present, some consumers think that it is unsafe for vegetable products to have agricultural residues, and confuse the concept of detection of pesticide residues and excessive pesticide residues. The use of pesticides in vegetable production is normal, the use of pesticides will have residue problems, but the presence of residues does not mean that the product is not safe. If the residual value does not exceed the limit standard, the product is safe. If the residual value exceeds the limit value, it can only be said that there is a safety risk and does not necessarily cause harm.

Low toxicity and high efficiency pesticides are widely used.

In order to improve the quality and safety of vegetables, agricultural control, physical control, biological control and other measures are mainly taken in the prevention and control of vegetable diseases and insect pests, such as the use of anti-insect nets, hanging yellow or blue boards, the use of solar energy insecticidal lamps, the use of sex attractants to kill pests and other means to reduce the use of pesticides. At present, the pesticides used in vegetable production are basically low-toxic and high-efficiency pesticides. For example, the most widely used new pesticide chlorobenzamide has oral and transdermal LD50 > 5000mg/kg (LD50 > 500mg/kg is low-toxic pesticide), and its limit value is 20mg/kg, but generally the detected value on vegetables < 1mg/kg, there is no safety risk.

In order to strengthen the supervision of the quality and safety of vegetables, the Ministry of Agriculture has established an inspection system for the quality and safety of agricultural products throughout the country, supported the construction of 2552 quality inspection institutions for agricultural products, and carried out monitoring work on the quality and safety of vegetables. Since 2001, the Ministry of Agriculture has carried out routine monitoring on the quality and safety of vegetables throughout the country four times a year, and the provinces (autonomous regions) have also carried out routine monitoring and supervision spot checks accordingly, with remarkable results. At present, there are no more incidents of acute poisoning caused by excessive pesticide residues in vegetables. In 2014, the qualified rate of all kinds of vegetables reached 96.3%.

Therefore, at present, the quality and safety of vegetable products consumed in the market is guaranteed, and consumers can rest assured to eat.
