The planting area of grain in China reached 112 million hectares last year.
China planted 112.74 million hectares of grain last year, an increase of 780,000 hectares over the previous year; 4.22 million hectares of cotton, 130,000 hectares less than the previous year; 14.08 million hectares of oilseeds, 60,000 hectares more than the previous year; and 1.91 million hectares of sugar, 90,000 hectares less than the previous year, according to the Statistical Bulletin of National Economic and Social Development 2014 released by the National Bureau of Statistics Thursday.
According to the communique, China's grain harvest was bumper again last year, with an annual grain output of 607.1 million tons, an increase of 5.16 million tons or 0.9 percent over the previous year; an annual cotton output of 6.16 million tons, a decrease of 2.2 percent over the previous year; an oil output of 35.17 million tons, the same as the previous year; and a sugar output of 134.03 million tons, a decrease of 2.5 percent.
