Recently, a friend asked me how to deal with the withering of its ornamental pineapple flowers. Here I will teach you how to make the ornamental pineapple propagate continuously. This method is actually a split propagation, which can be replanted by cutting with its lateral buds. After that, it can continue to bloom.

Ornamental pineapples like a warm and humid environment, even in winter to maintain a temperature of more than 10 degrees, to maintain a higher air humidity, so that ornamental pineapples can maintain a longer flowering period.

After the bud of the ornamental pineapple has withered, some cubs will grow again from the side. these are the new seedlings. There are more than 3000 varieties of ornamental pineapple, which are usually propagated by ramets, and can be re-cut when its lateral buds grow larger.

Did you see the lateral buds in the red circle above?

Most of the ornamental pineapple flowers can bloom for more than two months, and some even bloom throughout winter and spring. The red and yellow ones are actually its buds, and its flowers are hidden inside very small.

After seeing the flowers of the ornamental pineapple wither, do not pour water into the bud, otherwise it is easy to cause rot and give off a bad smell. The bud wilt should be removed in time, then maintain a certain air humidity, maintain appropriate scattered light in the environment, maintain environmental ventilation, and the maintenance temperature is above 15 degrees.

Many people throw away the flower bud of the ornamental pineapple after it has withered. In fact, it can continue to be maintained. It will grow new lateral buds and can be transplanted as long as it grows to about 15cm.

Its lateral buds generally appear after the bud has withered, and some appear during or before flowering. If you want to raise the lateral buds to blossom, it takes a long time, usually about 1-3 years.

After the flowers of the ornamental pineapple are cut off, it is necessary to retain as many leaves as possible, which can promote the germination of lateral buds, be conducive to growth, and bring more nutrients to lateral buds. After maintenance, avoid watering directly to the center of the leaves. Pour water directly into the soil in the basin soil. It is best to use peat soil to mix bark, sand or perlite, so as to maintain good drainage and ventilate the roots. Can also maintain a certain amount of moisture.

Why can't your ornamental pineapple lateral buds blossom when they grow up?

Some friends re-cut the side buds of ornamental pineapples and did not blossom after raising them for two or three years, in fact, it was because of a lack of nutrients.

I asked some friends in the nursery that the younger ornamental pineapple usually uses ethylene gas to promote flowering. During the flowering period of ornamental pineapple, ethylene can make it blossom.

But usually there is no ethylene gas in the flower friend's home, so we can put some ripe fruit next to it, and the apple will release ethylene gas when it is placed naturally.

Usually, the apples that are not fully ripe are put in the bag, and then the apples and pineapples are put into the bag together, and then the apples ripen slowly, and the mature apples in plastic bags slowly release ethylene, which usually takes about three weeks. Need to be properly ventilated every day.

After 8-13 weeks, ornamental pineapples can give birth to new spikes.
