National Bureau of Statistics: grain production increased by 0.9% in 2014 compared with the same period last year
The grain acreage for the whole year was 112.74 million hectares, an increase of 780000 hectares over the previous year. The planting area of cotton was 4.22 million hectares, a decrease of 130000 hectares. The planting area of oil crops is 14.08 million hectares, an increase of 60, 000 hectares. The planting area of sugar crops was 1.91 million hectares, a decrease of 90, 000 hectares.
There was another bumper harvest of grain. Grain output for the whole year was 607.1 million tons, an increase of 5.16 million tons or 0.9 percent over the previous year. Of this total, the output of summer grain was 136.6 million tons, an increase of 3.6 percent; that of early rice was 34.01 million tons, a decrease of 0.4 percent; and that of autumn grain was 436.49 million tons, an increase of 0.1 percent. The grain output for the whole year was 557.27 million tons, an increase of 0.8 percent over the previous year. Of this total, rice output was 206.43 million tons, an increase of 1.4 percent; wheat output was 126.17 million tons, an increase of 3.5 percent; and corn output was 215.67 million tons, a decrease of 1.3 percent.
The cotton output for the whole year was 6.16 million tons, 2.2% lower than that of the previous year. The output of oil was 35.17 million tons, the same as the previous year. The output of sugar was 134.03 million tons, a decrease of 2.5%. The output of tea was 2.09 million tons, an increase of 8.7%.
The total output of meat for the whole year was 87.07 million tons, an increase of 2.0 percent over the previous year. Of this total, pork output was 56.71 million tons, up 3.2 percent; beef production was 6.89 million tons, up 2.4 percent; mutton production was 4.28 million tons, up 2.9 percent; and poultry production was 17.51 million tons, down 2.7 percent. The output of poultry eggs was 28.94 million tons, an increase of 0.6%. Milk output was 37.25 million tons, an increase of 5.5%. At the end of the year, the stock of pigs was 465.83 million, down 1.7 percent, and the number of pigs was 735.1 million, an increase of 2.7 percent.
The annual output of aquatic products was 64.5 million tons, an increase of 4.5 percent over the previous year. Of this total, the output of farmed aquatic products was 47.62 million tons, up 4.9 percent, and the output of captured aquatic products was 16.88 million tons, up 3.5 percent.
The timber output for the whole year was 81.78 million cubic meters, down 3.1 percent from the previous year.
In the whole year, the irrigated area of cultivated land increased by 1.32 million hectares, and the area of water-saving irrigation increased by 2.23 million hectares.
