This kind of privet tree is very common in England and is usually planted as a fence around houses, so there are a lot of these piles. Graham began to use this pile to make bonsai 20 years ago, and the following one is one of his works at that time, which won an award. Therefore, he knows this tree species very well and knows that it is no problem to carve and trim it, and it will not be killed easily.

What we need to do today is the pile in the following picture, which is also dug in the fence of the family. It has been cultivated in this basin for four or five years, and it has been pruned many times before it is in its present state. This pile is characterized by a multi-pole book, which divides six thick poles from the pile foundation, so it is very suitable for bonsai modeling by carving. But because there are too many poles, we need to make a choice.

To get a pile material, the first thing to do is to judge the pile, apply skills in accordance with their aptitude, and make the best use of the pile's specialty. Graham chose to start with this. After sawing off the front three poles, pay attention to the high and low levels when leaving the pile, so that the final carving will have a high and low level effect.

The front three poles are removed, the back poles are exposed, and the back three thick poles also need to be adjusted. The pole pointed to by the arrow in the following picture is because the branch spacing is relatively large and it is too straight, so it will not look good if you leave it too long. And the two thick poles on the right are connected. So choose to truncate the high pole on the left.

A lot of artificial saws are left after truncation, which cannot exist, so it is necessary to carve. First thick and then fine, and finally use silk carving to make that kind of fine texture, which simulates the wood fibers left behind by Rain Water after being eroded by the wind and sun all the year round in nature.
