On the morning of March 21, a Boeing 737-800 from Hainan Airlines arrived at Beijing International Airport from Shanghai Hongqiao. The flight uses biofuels derived from food waste oil (commonly known as "gutter oil") collected by Sinopec from restaurants. This is the first time for our country to use bio-aviation oil to carry passengers in commercial flight, which indicates that China's aviation industry has entered the commercial flight stage in the field of energy saving and emission reduction. (according to Chongqing Morning Post)

I still remember that in 2012, a piece of news that Dutch Airlines used 2000 tons of gutter oil purchased from China to make flight oil was the envy of many Chinese who had a headache for gutter oil. "our gutter oil is still on the table." other people's gutter oil has gone up to the sky. Today, our gutter oil can also be transformed into useful talents, helping the plane to complete the first flight of passengers. China has become the fourth country with independent R & D and production technology of bioaviation oil and successfully commercialized after the United States, France and Finland.

According to reports, the main advantage of biofuel is relatively low carbon dioxide emissions, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50% to 80%, up to 90%. The transformation of gutter oil into bio-aviation coal, on the one hand, is low-carbon and environmentally friendly, which can greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions; on the other hand, it can further change the distorted trend of catering waste oil and reduce the health worries caused by the flow to the dining table. However, while rejoicing at the great use of gutter oil, we should also be soberly aware that although we have overcome the technical problems, there is still a lack of necessary supporting measures for large-scale promotion.

In foreign countries, gutter oil actually refers to waste oil, because waste cooking oil is not allowed to be poured into the sewers at will. As one of the most developed countries in the catering industry in the world, the garbage disposal Act issued by France in 1992 clearly stipulates that kitchen waste oil shall not be mixed with other kitchen waste. Otherwise, the restaurant will be fined heavily or even ordered to suspend business and the operator will be investigated for criminal responsibility. In contrast, in China, the waste oil produced by catering is often poured directly into the sewers, and most of the gutter oil is mixed with all kinds of garbage and impurities, which brings great trouble to recycling.

Due to technical reasons, the production cost of bio-aviation coal is much higher, which is often 2 to 3 times that of oil-based aviation kerosene, which will undoubtedly affect the enthusiasm of airlines to purchase and use to a great extent. At the same time, compared with the oil-collecting "guerrillas", the purchase price of biofuel refining enterprises has no competitive advantage, causing trouble for raw material collection and large-scale production. Experts suggest that government departments need to learn from the experience of developed countries and formulate incentive policies for the use of gutter oil to produce biofuels, including subsidies, tax relief and financial support for research and development.

Despite the success of gutter oil Feitian, it is an unavoidable fact that there is no relevant legal policy on adding biofuel to gasoline, diesel and aviation kerosene in China.

An interesting coincidence is that three days before the first flight of the gutter oil plane, the State Food and Drug Administration issued another notice to strictly prevent gutter oil from being on the table. In fact, after so many years of protracted war with gutter oil, we should stop and reflect on it and think about the truth that "it is better to be blocked than sparse". Instead of exhausted chasing and intercepting gutter oil, it is better to devote more money and energy to help turn waste into treasure. If we realize the normalization of gutter oil "flying sky" as soon as possible, it is expected to get to the root of the problem and get twice the result with half the effort.
